Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittani Pygeorge.
Hi Brittani, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In February 2020, I was 25, and I went through some trauma that completely broke me. The Piercing/Tattoo Shop I was at was so toxic & every time I went in for a shift, I had to see the person that brought me so much pain. At work, I had to fake it like everything was okay, but on the inside all I wanted to do was curl up in a ball and cry. It was July 2020 when I said enough was enough. I finally had the courage to tell my story to my boss which got my piercing contract voided and then I quit. After I quit, I felt so lost because the company that was once my family was now a group that I never wanted to be around again. I took some months to cry all my tears and feel my feelings and then when it was my 26th birthday I told myself, “Alright girl, you’re either going to stay depressed or you’re going to boss up!! & so I did exactly that… I bossed up.
For my 26th birthday, I took a trip by myself and that’s when all this motivation hit me and I created Bpyesworld. When I got back from my trip, I went to check out a private studio and signed my lease on October 1st, 2020. After four months of having my private studio open, I noticed how good I was doing and that’s when I started searching for storefronts.
May 2021, I found a storefront. It took my dad and I five months to remodel it and then in October 2021, I opened up my own storefront Bpyesworld Piercing Studio in the heart of downtown Walnut Creek, CA. When I finally got everything I wanted in business wise I started manifesting a house. I spoke it into existence every day and in August 2022 I purchased my first home all on my own at the age of 27. In a matter of two years, I went from feeling lost to finding a private studio, then a storefront and now I have my own home. I am grateful for the trauma I went through because without it, I would not be where I am at today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wasn’t always a smooth road. I quit a job with steady income and had no backup plan. I then had to create a business on my own and started from scratch. I think I had maybe 10,000.00 or less to my name and so I took a gamble and crossed my fingers that everything would work out.
When I got my storefront the demolition/remodel was tough and there was a lot of trial and error. There were things that I spent money on that had to get replaced so I lost out on some money, but it was all worth it in the end.
I have had my machines break down on me and me have to pay hundreds of dollars to overnight the machine so I didn’t have to lose out on a day’s work.
I have had my power go out, my ac break down, my jewelry orders not get to the shop in time, etc.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a professional body piercer and ear stylist. I work with your anatomy and come up with different designs to create a whole new look for you. I can do small and dainty styles or big a gaudy.
I am most proud of my curations when my clients let me have full control. That I feel like is when I do my best work.
I am also most proud of myself for becoming a business owner during the height of the pandemic, succeeding, then expanding and growing even more & then I bought a house and I did that all that in less than two years and at the age of 26-27.
I would say my personality, style, vibe and way to make people feel comfortable and confident before they leave my shop is something that sets me apart from others.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Starting a business on your own is scary because you are taking a risk, but let me tell you, it’s the greatest risk you could take. as long as you set your mind with good intentions and manifest your success, you will come out on top!! Don’t be lazy & don’t be scared to reach out and ask questions… if anyone dogs you for that then they are a crappy person.
I wish I had more of an understanding on how a business is ran before I did everything. That way, I didn’t have so much trial and error… but it was also kind of fun learning it that way because everything in life is a lesson and sometimes you gotta take two steps back to leap five steps forward.
