Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Williams.
Brian, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a Real Estate professional working part-time. I have always loved baking and have had a soft spot for children/youth in need or less fortunate. In my off time, I volunteer throughout LA County with many organizations.
Where I volunteer:
The Help Group – This is a school for Autistic children and youth. I volunteer helping with everyday life skills in the kitchen.
For Goodness Cakes – This is an organization focusing primarily with the LA County Foster Kid program. We bake birthday cakes and major celebration cakes for the foster kids throughout LA. I work with the LA Chapter lead as well as do some of the baking and deliveries for the kids.
Foster A Dream – I am on the counsel for this organization. We throw major events each year for kids and youth in the LA County foster kid system. Last year we threw a prom event and a back to school event. These events provide clothes, shoes, glam makeovers, food and entertainment.
New Roads School (Santa Monica) – I volunteer with the elementary program and do class visits teaching the kids baking skills.
Salvation Army – I do a yearly volunteer event for the women in the transition program. Baking and inspirational speaking. This organization is in Fresno.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For me, it has been a pretty smooth road but only due to my drive and determination. I set out on this mission to find organizations that fit my passion. I have been lucky to have met incredible people in the LA area that have been in line with my mission. I am a pretty positive person and I do not let obstacles get in my way of my drive to help.
I have a motto. ” Be sweet to people for no reason ” It works in navigating the path through life.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
What sets me apart is my drive to help, get involved and offer my gifts of baking to those in need.
I am most proud that I have been able to reach out to so many kids/youth and adults through the organizations that I work with and simply put a smile on their face or give them a day they will always remember.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan on pushing forward with all of the organizations I am already working with as well as grow with more as I navigate the path. I am hoping to one day write a children’s book
