Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Jenkins.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Ever since I was a baby, I’ve been musically inclined and in tune with music. Music is my everything. Without it, my life would be pretty hectic. I started writing down the raps I would freestyle at like 9-10 but I didn’t start recording myself until high school. I was never really confident in my voice. In high school, I’d make joke songs and diss tracks or get into rap battles and just freestyle you know. It wasn’t until my freshman year of college where my friend and fellow rapper LDN Lavi convinced me to rap. Check him out his music is dope too. I started recording myself around mid-fall 2019 so it’s only almost a year now. I hear nothing but compliments on my music and it makes me feel good. I want my music to make somebody else feel good, I’m not here to get rich. That would be mad nice tho.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not been smooth at all. But that’s life and this journey we all on. Can you really enjoy the fruits of your labor if there wasn’t any hard work, sweat or tears put into it? Some of the struggles I face personally are what I rap about. Depression, overthinking, anxiety, heartbreak and feeling lost and confused. My first biggest struggle was to get over the numbers game. It’s been a year and I haven’t cracked crazy numbers but at the same time, it’s high as long as I’m doing my thing. If there’s anything watching anime for mad years taught me, if you really wanna be the best, you gon keep fighting to get there.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m an artist. I’m a creator. I rap, sometimes sing, draw and take pictures, I’m working on producing and engineering. I kinda do everything I want to get into film and clothing too. I write a lot and have a ton of ideas for things I want to do and push, it’s all in a matter of time before I take that leap for real. For me personally, I’m most proud of my growth. I want to take over! I grew up watching anime and listening to Lil Wayne, Tupac and Kid Cudi all day long so it’s engraved in me to be the best so that’s all I ever wanted.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I hate this question because everything to me is case by case. I say that because I’m not necessarily where I am just because. Everyone’s life is different and it brings you to different places and down different paths. Life is mysterious. Now, if I had to do it over again and be able to manipulate my life OF COURSE I’M DOING IT DIFFERENTLY. I would’ve started recording myself way sooner in the decade I’ve been rapping for, I would profusely express myself and never change because of other’s opinions. I would probably be exactly where I want to. It’s nice to have lessons learned though because the scars you get in life build character and knowledge. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
