Meet Blue Trimarchi of Highland Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blue Trimarchi.

Hi Blue, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started Art Works in 1987. I had just sold my silk screen business in Santa Barbara and was trying to figure out my next move. I had a fine art, commercial printing and sales background. My roommate from Art Center suggested that we start a business photographing art for reproduction. We visioned a business that would be a service oriented operation focusing on the needs of artists. Back then 95 per cent of the clients were commercial artists and 5 per cent were fine artists. After a year I bought out my partners interests as his illustration career had taken off and he had no time for the Art Works.

The Art Works was an analog, film based business when it started. As the years passed the world changed and computers became the driving force. I constantly adjusted my work to accommodate our client’s needs. Currently, we are a state of the art digital business that provides color corrected digital captures of art, Giclée printing, book design and printing as well as other design and digital services. We digitize hundreds of paintings and drawings each week. We were one of the first companies in America to pioneer Giclée printing services. Today, our clients consists of 95 per cent fine artists and 5 percent commercial artists. We not only work for artists, but also, museums, galleries, publishers, etc. Our mission is to serve the art community with the highest quality work and to help artists with their careers. My life has been devoted to helping the art community. I have also been on the board of directors of the South Pasadena arts Council for 13 years as a volunteer.

The arts represent the soul of our society. Most people do not understand how difficult it is the make a living in the arts. This last year has been difficult to say the least. Please support artists as much as you can in your life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As with any business there are ups and downs. Whenever the economy struggles the arts suffer. Art is not something you can eat. When times get tough art sales go down. There have been times when the business came close to closing but somehow we have survived. 38 years and we are still here serving the art community of Los Angeles. We have been very fortunate and we are thankful to our supporters.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I try to instill a feeling of caring to our employees. I’m proud of the fact that we have helped so many people through the years. We aren’t perfect but we try to be. My proudest moments are when I see our clients succeed with their projects.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Be kind. Help others. Be patient.
