Meet Bella and Eliza, a mother- daughter duo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bella and Eliza

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all started with a love for the ocean. My daughter Bella and I have always been drawn to the sea, fascinated by its mysteries, beauty, and the treasures it leaves behind on the shore. We would spend hours collecting seashells on our travels, carefully selecting each one for its unique shape, color, or texture. Over time, we accumulated a collection that filled jars, shelves, and memories from the beaches we’d visited together.

But the shells didn’t just stay on display. One day, while we were arranging them, an idea began to form. My daughter, creative and always looking for ways to bring beauty to life, suggested we start crafting art with the shells. She had a vision—small trinket dishes made from the shells, each one a little piece of the sea that people could keep with them. We spent time experimenting, designing, and crafting until we perfected our signature seashell trinket dishes.

What started as a bonding activity between us, merging our love for the ocean and antiques, soon became something bigger. The trinket dishes caught the eye of friends, family, and eventually strangers who marveled at the craftsmanship. One day, my daughter had a brilliant idea—why not share our creations with the world? With her encouragement, we decided to take the leap and start selling them.

We launched our business “Bella’s Jewel” on Etsy and created a website to showcase our work. The response was overwhelming—people loved the unique charm of our seashell trinket dishes. We also started popping up at vintage markets, local fairs, and art events, where we could share our passion for the sea and our story behind each piece.

Now, our small business has flourished. Each dish we create is a little piece of our journey—our love for the sea, our appreciation for antiques, and our shared creativity. It’s been an incredible experience watching our passion grow into something we can share with others, and we look forward to many more adventures, both in collecting and crafting.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey to building out business,Bella’s Jewel hasn’t been without its challenges. In fact, it’s been smooth only because we’ve truly enjoyed every step of the process, embracing the ups and downs as part of the adventure. From day one, we knew that turning our passion into a business would mean facing obstacles—things like navigating the boring but necessary steps of obtaining insurance, licenses, and handling other administrative tasks we hadn’t fully anticipated. There were moments when the less exciting aspects seemed overwhelming, and we found ourselves learning new things as we went.

But through it all, we stayed focused on what really mattered: our love for creating art together and the joy it brought us and others. Remembering our end goal—sharing our seashell trinket dishes with the world and inspiring others with our work—kept us motivated and inspired. Every time we saw someone light up at one of our creations or heard about how much someone loved their purchase, it reminded us why we started in the first place. The obstacles became just small bumps in the road, and our passion carried us forward.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
n my personal career, I work with numbers as an insurance agent, so when it comes to Bella’s Jewel business, it’s a refreshing departure from my daily routine. My daughter, who’s 14 and a freshman in high school, is juggling her own full schedule. Between school and playing volleyball for both her high school team and a club team, she’s incredibly busy.

Our small business is our passion project—a way for us to escape from our day-to-day activities and dive into something we both love. It gives us the opportunity to slow down, be creative, and share our love for the sea and art with others. It’s not just about making and selling trinket dishes; it’s about finding time to reconnect, be present, and work on something meaningful together.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to us is sharing something we love with others and leaving a lasting impression through our art. While it’s important to maintain a successful business, we never want to lose the joy that comes with creating. Our seashell trinket dishes are more than just products—they’re a reflection of our passion, and we hope that each one brings a little bit of that joy into the lives of those who receive them.
