Meet Kim Rodgers of Bark Pet Photography in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Rodgers.

Kim, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Bark Pet Photography started almost 10 years ago, before pet photography was a “thing”. As an animal rescuer and passionate photographer, snapping photos of pets came naturally. I began by volunteering with local rescue groups to help take pictures of pets that were in need of forever homes and over time this led to people asking for pictures of their own pets. Eventually, Bark Pet Photography was born and is still going strong today! A few years back my partner Sarah and I even co-authored the book Dog Photography for Dummies to share what we’ve learned throughout the years.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The pet photography landscape in Los Angeles has definitely changed since the beginning of our business. There were once a handful of photographers focusing specifically on pets, but today there’s literally hundreds. I think the quality of our photos speak for themselves though so we still manage to stay very busy!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bark Pet Photography – what should we know?
Bark Pet Photography is a Los Angeles based pet photography business known for capturing vibrant photos of your pets. Our goal is to provide you with memories of your pet that you’ll cherish forever. We offer simple pricing with no hidden fees. All of our clients receive high resolution, retouched digital files because after all we want you to have these photos long after your pet departs this world.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My partner, Sarah Sypniewski, has been an integral part of Bark Pet Photography. She not only assists on shoots, but she’s pretty much a dog whisperer. She’s been on board since day one and is always behind the scenes helping to get the perfect shot. She also co-authored our book, Dog Photography for Dummies, and without her there would be no book!
