Meet Azizull Kaur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Azizull Kaur.

Hi Azizull, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The main theme of my life so far has been to find my purpose. Life has had an interesting way of showing me my purpose. I was raised in Agoura Hills, California, and spent a significant amount of my childhood in India. My parents would take my brother and I back to Delhi every year, and at a young age I was introduced to yoga and Ayurveda. In India, my brother and I would sit and listen to my parents and family members talk about how certain spices were good for blood pressure, how certain eating routines aided digestion, and my dad would teach us to stretch and breathe in different ways to help us to prevent injuries. These seeds planted in early childhood gently sprouted through my life and flourished into my passion and purpose.

For a few years, I followed my purpose in helping children with disabilities learn functional skills as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (or BCBA), and although fulfilling, some life events changed my trajectory. In 2020, I entered into my purpose of teaching and supporting others to live in good health and restore good health through yoga and health coaching. Through this journey, I hope to honor and carry on the legacy of practices my mother and father shared with me. These traditions that are thousands of years old left their impression on me in early childhood, and I am very grateful to help others on their path to restoring and building a healthy lifestyle.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My journey to find and live my purpose has had plenty of struggles. It has not been easy to break expectations, especially those I have had of myself. For one, I have always loved academia and thought that the route to me living my purpose was a path of more school and working a more “traditional” job. However, life had vastly different plans for me. My late 20s have shown me that the most important part of life is doing something I love and being present for the people I love. I am grateful for my resilience through personal struggle and that I have found how to connect back to my true identity. In the end (or I guess this is just the beginning for my life path) I have found that going back to my roots has been more empowering and the perspective that has helped me help others.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a yoga instructor and health & wellness coach, currently expanding my education to specialize in Ayurveda health counseling. I currently teach at CorePower in Westlake Village, CA, and am starting a health coaching practice called Kaur Wellness. My work is a mélange of helping clients: restore their vitality, build sustainable routines, learn how to move for their body type and needs, and listening to their stories. The mix of these as a health coach helps me to effectively support my clients achieve balanced health and feel well. Along with my calling, my background as a behavior analyst helps me break down larger tasks into smaller steps, notice what needs to change environmentally, build accountability and reinforce with positive support into my practice. I think that my life story in education has allowed me to gain so much perspective in what is a supportive way to encourage others to be their best Self. My blend of ancient science and modern therapeutic practices allows me to share my heritage with others.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My parents are incredible. They built a life for my brother and I far away from anything and anyone familiar. I have not always been grateful for how different my upbringing was, but goodness has it been the most humbling and gratifying lesson. All the hours we spent traveling as a family, eating together and exploring life together have been influential in creating lifelong impressions. My dad taught me yoga to help me prevent injuries (I was a clumsy kid), he taught me breathwork so I could run faster, he leads life with a cool confidence that was inspiring. My mother taught me to sing, and although I sound like a hyena, her lesson was to teach me how to use my voice. And, as a woman, how powerful is it to learn that skill. I am blessed to have had incredible coaches, teachers, professors, and friends, and most of all, blessed to have the parents who raised me.
