Today we’d like to introduce you to Ayanda Dube.
Hi Ayanda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I stem from this mighty, talented and hugely underrated country called South Africa. I came to LA at 17years old to pursue a career in acting. I attended New York Film Academy and have been professionally acting since 2022.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It never is a small road but every obstacle made me stronger. As actors, we’re always told that this isn’t an easy career and it never sinks in. Down the line? It sinks in. 2025 was a slow year for everyone and there weren’t a lot of jobs. This made me question my self-worth, my talent and if I really wanted this. Being a foreigner as well has it’s challenges like productions second guessing you because you don’t hold an American passport thus losing out on jobs as well as the politics of this country.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an actress! I don’t really have a specialty, I love experimenting with all mediums. After graduating film school, I found myself doing theater more than anything else. That was such an eye opening experience for me because my degree specialized in film and I really fell in love with the theater. I joined Ballview Entertainment – a small but mighty theater group in North Hollywood. My first professional acting job was playing a trio of murdered girls. We all had to move in unison, speak as one and basically breathe as one. It was a challenging but extremely fulfilling experience because it taught me about my own artistry and how I can work with other artists.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Mhmmm, I used to teach the other kids in my neighborhood. Everyone thought I was going to be a teacher because I did it every single weekend and every summer (poor kids!) I actually came top with a name for myself cool and would give the kids report cards. I guess that’s where my performance gene started.
