Today we’d like to introduce you to Avi Sills.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Avi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started playing Jazz, Blues & R&B in local bars and clubs as a drummer in Eugene Or. at the age of 14. Played all the way through high school, included touring the west coast. Back East for College at Berklee College of Music, Boston.
After college, there was a short list of places to “make it” in the music biz. I had my fill of east coast winters. So LA became my home in 93’.
Over the next 10 years, I was blessed to work with many amazing artists. Recording, Touring & Producing.
Because LA is such a hub for the entertainment world, many A-list musicians and performance artists would work private events while off the road or between shows.
LA has a unique events scene, parring unparalleled talent with fantastic event producers. The result, in my opinion, is a creative palette for perfection on every level.
As I worked more in the LA Events scene, there seemed to be one aspect missing-Cultural diversity-
Fortune 500 companies with very diverse workforces, would hire very western based talent. This was great for the executive 5% who were mainly white males. But what about their workers, who they were mainly holding the event for.
TransGlobal was started with the vision of bringing a globalized workforce, global entertainment. Transglobal Entertainment provides only the finest entertainment this world has to offer, and we bring it together from the far reaches of the globe at your event. As a full-service entertainment company, e present not only our specialty of hard-to-find World music & dance and performance art acts, but also all of your most common entertainment needs from wedding DJs to jazz and Top 40 bands.
Some of our favorite clients have been: Sting, Richard Branson-Virgin, Guess, Amgen.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The Events business is very competitive in LA. Throw in the worst economic collapse since the great depression and you have your work cut out for you.
Our company had great success between 2004-08. In 08 the bottom dropped out for most of the Events companies around the US. We reinvented by becoming one of the first portable Photo-Booth providers in LA. A blessing and a curse. Now there’s like 30,0000 Photobooth companies in LA alone. My busisness & music producing partner, is very tech savvy and took charge of the Photobooth side while I handleled the entertainment staffing. In 2013 we decided to divide the company and re-brand. I kept TransGlobal Ent and Alex continued the photobooth company as FotoSpark. In my opinion- Still the best photobooth’s around.
Currently TransGlobal is undergoing a lot of overdue redesign and branding, but continues to bring amazing talent and creative ideas to events all around the LA area.
Please tell us about TransGlobal Entertainment.
As an Events Entertainment business owner, it’s imperative to be in the “know” of what’s popular and trending. At the same time, having a unique stamp or speciality is equally important, as is creative vision of what’s next.
As a professional musician, DJ & Producer I’ve been collecting talent and contacts for over 20 years. And still work for other Event companies in these capacities which allows me to get a very broad view of what’s happening through the eyes of other talented Event Producers/Companies.
At the end of the day, TransGlobal has a special niche of bringing unique global entertainment and flair to our events, which set’s us apart from other entertainmet providers.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
The day I decided to play drums:
My dad is a hippy Rabbi, and would drag me along to many of the weddings he would officiate. When I was 10 he dragged me to yet another wedding, but this one changed my life. In the middle of the reception while the band was rockin’, The Groom jumped up on stage and took over on drums. He killed it!
I remember feeling the energy transform. Not just for the guests who we’re thrilled. But the sheer joy the guy had playing his heart out. I turned to my dad and said “That’s what I want to do”… Oy Vey
