Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Monzon.
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Proud Latina born and raised in Chicago, I moved out to LA when I was 19 years old. I originally moved for fashion school and I did indeed pursue that. After that I continued school at ASU still while hustling and bustling trying to make it in LA working up to 4 jobs at a time until I landed a full time in fashion e-commerce. That sometimes feels like ages ago, but also like it was yesterday. As things evolved, I ended up on a journey with myself that naturally led to my next step. I had always struggled with my health journey and after years to finally figure it out it lead me to a new career path. I am now also a certified personal trainer and I absolutely love it. I help women build strength and inner confidence to take up space, unapologetically and fully, in every area of life. I’ve been able to combine and pursue all my passions which I know my younger self cannot believe!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Uff-Not even a little smooth. More-so like that road you avoid full of potholes, bumps, and gravel. Moving when I was just 19, I wouldn’t change for the world, but was definitely a crazy decision that now when I look back on it, don’t know if I could have the courage to do it again. Moving across the country, living on my own and trying to make ends meet by far as the most pivotal point in my life. It made me realize that if I wanted something I had to go after it and work my butt off to get it. From living in a studio with 3 people, to almost failing school for overworking, maxing out my credit card, to having my car stolen when I finally got one.
I’ve had just about every obstacle come my way but they have all lead me to this point in my life. If it hadn’t happened the way it did, life would be completely different. I wouldn’t have the incredible people who became my chosen family during those wild years, or be working the jobs I have now.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work full time for a fashion company doing e-commerce and I am a personal trainer and coach.
I pride myself being a trainer and sometimes find it surreal because if you asked that 19-year-old girl when she moved to LA that’s what I’d be doing I would say no way! Going through my own fitness journey I fell in love with weightlifting. I found a gym that encouraged me and saw my potential and because of that I pursued becoming a personal trainer after being a member for almost 3 years. Over a year later and now I am a trainer and coach at that same gym. I now get to help so many women who’ve faced similar challenges to the ones I went through, both as a coach in the classes I teach and with my personal training clients. I have the privilege of seeing their potential before they do and being part of their journey to reach it. There’s such beauty in watching a woman discover her strength and confidence, that’s what I do all this for!
