Today we’d like to introduce you to Arianna Jones
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in a very small town in Virginia. I always loved art in all of its various forms, particularly performing arts. Growing up it was seldom that I saw many African American women pursuing artistic careers, especially in the area I lived in, which was likely for a number of reasons; one being the lack of opportunity for us to emerge into the arts and entertainment realm and another being the fear of financial instability that many African Americans who grew up in poor communities are burdened with when choosing their career paths. Although it was not something that I fully understood until I matured, it was always something I felt I wanted to change even at a young age. I wanted to see more people like me on stage and on television. I knew from a young age that I had a passion for the art of performing and that I wanted to do it forever.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the greatest lessons I was forced to learn throughout my process was the importance of confidence and understanding your self worth. I believe one of my greatest obstacles, aside from the struggle we all face of finding opportunities and people who believe in you enough to grant you with them, was overcoming imposter syndrome and learning to first believe in myself. You have to have faith and trust in yourself first and foremost. Act like you belong in the spaces you are in and deserve to be there, because you do! When you exude that confidence you’ll grab the attention of others and suddenly they’ll have interest in you. They’ll want to know more about who you are and what you do.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an actress, writer, and producer. Over the course of the past couple years I have been blessed to book lead roles in two feature films, one television series, and one stage play, along with a number of smaller roles in other feature films. In addition to this, I established my own production company, Arianna Jones Productions, and produced my first feature film this year and I am now in the pre-production stages of a second project I am both writing and producing. I believe what makes my art unique is the same thing that makes every artist’s work unique. Art is powerful because each work is produced through the unique perspective of one individual or, sometimes, a group of individuals with specific backgrounds and viewpoints. That being said, art and artistic ideas can never truly be duplicated. I put a lot of my culture and personal life experiences into my work- things that are specific to me but often relatable in some sense to others.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I have an app on my phone called Nebula. Each day it gives you an affirmation along with a piece of advice to carry throughout your day. When you initially sign up for the app, which is completely free to do, you will be asked questions regarding your birth date and time and the affirmations and words of wisdom you are given each day are based on astrology and specific to your zodiac chart. I have developed a habit of reading the app each morning as I have found the affirmations and short passages to be very motivating at the start of my day.
