Meet Anthony Velasquez of The UPS Store

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Velasquez.

Hi Anthony, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My father and I first opened our UPS Store in Carson in 2016. We originally came from San Diego, and I have lived and served the residents of Carson for over 9 years. In the past 9 years we have expanded to owning 2 other UPS Stores, another one in Carson and the latest one in Lynwood. Through hard work, treating our employees well, and providing the best customer service and value to the communities that we serve has allowed us to successfully own and operate 3 UPS Stores.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road completely. But that is not a bad thing. It allows us to evaluate ourselves and how we operate our business and adjust accordantly to maintain our market share and innovate. The hardest challenge we faced was from 2020-2021 during Covid. But unlike many unfortunate small business who suffered during this time, our challenge was the unexpected increase of business we experienced as the economy during that time needed the services that we provided-such as shipping, printing marketing materials for local small businesses, and notary services. Along with supply chain issues, rising costs, and staffing issues, those were a rough couple of years. Now the challenge we are facing, along with the entire network, is adjusting and adapting our business model after Covid as we experiencing decrease in volume.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My father and I own and run three UPS Stores. We first got started in 2016 by opening a brand new start from the bottom up. In 2019 we purchased the only other UPS Store from an existing owner, and a few years after that we purchased another existing store in Lynwood.

What sets us apart from the rest of our competitors and from owners of other UPS Stores is how well we treat our employees. My father is a big believer in taking care of them. Our philosophy is when you take care of your customers, your customers will take care of you. And with happy employees, they are more willing to go above and beyond to take care of our customers. We are always fully staffed, more than any other UPS Store you will ever visit, because we do not want the customer to wait a long time to be helped, and here they receive more personalized help and attention from our employees.

What makes me most proud is the amount of reviews and compliments I hear everyday from our customers who say that they have never been to a nicer store with good employees. Some of our customers have told me that they will pass by other UPS Stores to just come to ours because they know what kind of service they will receive and expect when they come to one of our stores.

What I want our customers and the community that we serve to know is that we are here to help them out and we will give them VIP treatment to help with whatever they need. Our stores, unlike other UPS Stores, specializes in Print Services. I am have team who specializes in graphic design services and those with marketing background to help other small business to market their 0wn business. Over the years I have created lasting and special relationships with local businesses whom I do their printing for and help market their services and goods. We do graphic design services, print banners, window signs, business cards, flags, postcards, stickers, buttons, and just about any other thing you can think of. Nowhere else can you go and find such a dedicated team who is here to help them and provide great value.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters to me most is helping others and my faith.
As a leader, I have dedicated my time to continuously help and develop processes for my employees so that one day they themselves become leaders. I also care about the success of those in my community. I give my personal number to my customers so that they can always reach me if they need a last minute print job or help with anything. But none of this would be possible without the blessings I have received from God, and none of this matters without knowing that I am doing right by Him.
