Today we’d like to introduce you to Annie Tevelin.
Annie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I struggled for years with skin issues and after countless visits to dermatologists and tons of money thrown into skincare products, I was left with minimal positive results. I realized I was just like millions of other women who had nowhere to turn. There were a lot of salespeople telling me, “This will REALLY work,” and selling me a lot of products that, in the end, did nothing to help my severe acne and eczema. What was it going to take?
It was then that I realized my results were in the INGREDIENTS of the products I was using vs. what was being marketed to me. While working on commercial and music video sets as a professional makeup artist, as well as for a top luxury brand, I enrolled in a post-graduate program at UCLA & received a certificate in Cosmetic Chemistry.
From there, I learned the truth about what is truly best for the skin, and more importantly, what works and stays working. From this knowledge came SkinOwl, a skincare company that allowed women to FEEL as good as they looked. The products smelled good, felt good when our clients put them on and left them glowing inside and out due to their fast-acting results. I found that when I made the choice to care for myself on a small level, it opened the door to more impactful and authentic decisions & transformations. In the end, it’s what led to me leave my job & launch my own company.
SkinOwl’s sole mission is to educate you about your skin & deliver the best products so that skin “care” can be the catalyst to caring about every genuinely important facet of your life. With over 50 stores domestically retailing SkinOwl products, as well as 3 continents, SkinOwl is making waves in the green beauty industry in only 4 years.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
All things considering, it has been a smoother road than it could have been. Because we make the products in house and by hand, we have been able to bypass any issues with quality control. Plus, we believe that ‘slow and steady wins the race.’ We aren’t rushing our journey or the process. This allows us to really think about our message, the impact we have on our fans and community, and most importantly, celebrate the growth.

I am the Founder/Owner of SkinOwl. I am a makeup artist and have a lot of expertise with concern to cosmetic chemistry and ingredient safety. I also love people. I love helping and educating and training. It is the mix of these two skills that have allowed me to care for people and their skin and give them the results they are looking for. I think because I was essentially a frustrated consumer who decided to take matters into her own hands and create a line that worked (not just for me, but many others), that’s what sets me and SkinOwl apart. It’s created by a frustrated consumer, for the frustrated consumer.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I see a lot in SkinOwl. It has morphed into a true lifestyle brand over the last few months which excites me. SkinOwl as a product line and a lifestyle brand is the ultimate goal. To lead panels, educate, host summits surrounding self care — we have a lot in store for getting to know our community better.
