Meet Andreya Bishop of Inland Empire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andreya Bishop.

Andreya, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Basically… the Pandemic led me to be where I am now. I always had an interest to get into doing nails, but it never was more than a thought. While in lockdown when we couldn’t work or go to the store after certain hours and just needed to stay in the house, I started to think deeply on what I wanted to do. I wasn’t working at the time, so I thought this is the perfect opportunity to use my creative skills and put them to use by also finding a way to make money by doing something that I like. And I wasn’t thinking just short term I was thinking long and hard about what I could be doing in my future. I had just taken off my acrylic nails realizing that I probably wouldn’t be getting my nails done anytime soon with the uncertainty around the pandemic beginning and it hit me; What if I just learn to do my own nails! I figured since I can draw, sculpt and paint that this should come fairly naturally, and if I could do my own, I should be better at doing others. And it so it began.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all, however, I have been enjoying and trusting the process nonetheless. At one point I felt as though my work was not sustainable because when I first did a couple sets on myself, they popped off within a week and I couldn’t figure out why. Eventually, I started to play around with my products and figured out what worked best and watched more tutorial videos on how to prep the nails efficiently and lay the acrylic better. Once when I learned that all of my sets began to outlast my sets, I would get from the actual nail shops. Another bump in the road I have experienced was moving. I had been doing nails from home 95% of the time, and when I moved and found myself in an environment where I couldn’t do that at the time, I wasn’t really getting clients. With that, I was also going through a hard time personally as well as dealing with a death in my family. I felt very unmotivated and stuck and I wasn’t posting nail content bc I didn’t have anything new to post. Of course, I had the option of traveling to my clients but at the time, I still wasn’t getting not near as many opportunities for some reason. I needed to do something to get more exposure so that I could get more clients that were willing to have me travel to them. I ended up doing my own nails after having not done them in seven months and posted my content on my social media platforms and after that, I got more clients. As I started posting more nail content, I started to see a spike in demand.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a nail technician specializing in acrylic nail shaping and nail art/ designs. I’m known for a lot of things, but the most significant thing about me is that I am very creative. I’ve gone viral a good amount of times off of things I’ve put together creatively. I really like to pay attention to fine details, and I execute everything that I do with clear intention and precision. I always think outside the box, and I like to put my spin on things regardless if I am referencing something. I am very proud of moving to my own drum and being authentic and true to myself in a world where everyone seems to copy everyone via trends, styles, looks, etc. What sets me apart from others is alluring aura. When I step into a room, I command attention without asking for it. People gravitate towards me off of my style, but when they talk to me, they’ll see a woman who’s charismatic, relatable, and just raw and real.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is expressing myself unapologetically. I don’t like being confined to one thing one style one look, or one genre of myself. I get bored with things fast, so I always want to try new things and see what I’m capable of doing. Anything artistic is an escape into my deeper self. I get to come up with endless ideas and bring them to fruition. With being able to do nails, I get to show off my creative talents while also making people feel happy and confident about themselves. Knowing I’ve made others satisfied with my work is the most heartwarming feeling ever and keeps me highly motivated.
