Meet Andanette Valderrama and Daniella Carrasco of Ponderosa Cactus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andanette Valderrama and Daniella Carrasco.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We saw an opportunity to share some knowledge and product to drought susceptible Southern California. Growing up, we were surrounded by cacti, so this knowledge came naturally to us. We first tested the waters by presenting our cacti at pop-ups and flea markets. Months of packing up after each event, neither the cacti or us were happy. We sought a forever space for all to enjoy.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Unfamiliar roads and underpackaged cacti are not a married combination. We have come find and laugh that with each pothole comes a great story and an even better learning experience.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Ponderosa Cactus story. Tell us more about the business.
Ponderosa Cactus is a sister-owned store specializing in unique, drought resistant cacti. We like to think we are helping remove the idea that cacti only belong in Sonoran Desert scapes. We are known for our great customer service, awesome attitudes, good jokes, and friendly smiles (just kidding).

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Being mindful of what energy we put out is what we receive in return. This has manifested into wonderful opportunities; we had never fathomed before opening up Ponderosa Cactus.
