Meet Amira Abdulraheem of Goodhairbya LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amira Abdulraheem.

Hi Amira, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey with Goodhairbya LLC started from a deep love for hair but even more, a desire to create a space where people feel seen, cared for, and celebrated. I didn’t just want to style hair. I wanted to nourish it, protect it, and help my clients feel their most confident selves.

From the beginning I knew I wanted to do things differently. I built my brand on patience, transparency, and wellness by using clean products, taking my time with each client, and making sure every style promotes healthy hair. Goodhairbya isn’t just a salon service. It’s a safe space where hair is respected and beauty is never rushed.

What started as a passion has grown into a purpose. My mission is to show people, especially Black women, that their hair is worthy of love, care, and intention. And I’m proud to offer that with every appointment.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting Goodhairbya LLC did not come without its share of challenges. In the early stages, I was navigating everything on my own. I was building a brand from scratch, managing clients, learning the business side of things, and maintaining high standards for quality and care. There were moments of burnout, self-doubt, and financial pressure, especially because I refused to cut corners in how I treated my clients or their hair. I had to unlearn harmful hair practices and stay committed to prioritizing health over trends, even when it took more time and effort.

Now, as I grow, I am stepping into a new chapter by transitioning from offering services to developing my own hair care products. It is exciting but also incredibly demanding. I am learning about sourcing clean ingredients, formulating products that reflect my values, and entering a space that is not always welcoming to small, Black-owned brands. It is a challenge, but I am committed, because I believe the same love and care I put into every appointment can be bottled and shared on a larger scale.

As you know, we’re big fans of Goodhairbya LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Goodhairbya LLC is more than just a beauty business, it’s a healing space centered around intentional hair care, community, and honoring the beauty of textured hair. I created it as a way to shift how we think about getting our hair done, moving away from rushed, transactional experiences to something sacred, loving, and rooted in care. Every appointment is personal, unhurried, and centered around what’s healthiest for the client and their hair. My goal has always been to make people feel held, seen, and confident.

I specialize in protective styling with an emphasis on hair health and client comfort. That includes everything from custom wig installs, knotless braids, and loc maintenance to steaming, deep treatments, and overall hair wellness. I’m known for creating a peaceful, private environment where clients feel safe to be themselves while also receiving quality work that puts the health of their scalp and strands first. I also prioritize clean, alcohol-free products, gentle techniques, and styles that can last without causing damage.

What sets me apart is my approach. I don’t rush through appointments or follow harmful trends just because they’re popular. I really take the time to understand my clients’ needs and their relationship with their hair. Every detail matters, from the tension I use, to the ingredients in the products, to the energy I bring into the room. Clients often tell me they feel seen and respected, and that means everything to me. There’s also a lot of intention behind the space I’ve created. it’s warm, calm, and always rooted in Black joy and care.

I want readers to know that Goodhairbya is about more than just aesthetics. Yes, your style will look amazing, but more than that, your hair will be nourished, your scalp will be cared for, and you’ll feel good when you walk out the door. I offer a range of services with an emphasis on protective styling, hydration, and healthy maintenance. I also provide an intentional, one-on-one experience, no waiting, no double booking, and no stressful salon energy. Just care, peace, and results that last. And as I grow, I’m working toward launching my own line of clean, thoughtful hair care products that reflect the same love and purpose I put into my hands-on work.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is of my mother doing my hair. There was something so comforting about sitting between her legs, the scent of grease in the air, the gentle pull of the comb, and the way her hands moved with such care and intention. It was more than just grooming. It was a ritual, a moment of connection, and a quiet reminder that I was loved. As I got older, I began to realize how powerful those moments really were. Getting my hair done by Black women, whether in my family or community, created a sense of belonging. It was a space of laughter, storytelling, and pride. When I had the chance to spend time in Africa and witness the artistry of braiding and styling firsthand, it deepened my appreciation for the craft and the culture behind it. Watching women work with such skill and creativity showed me that doing hair is not just a service—it is a sacred form of expression. That experience made me fall in love with the beauty of textured hair and helped shape why I do what I do today. Black hair is powerful, versatile, and rooted in tradition. Honoring that through my work is not only important to me, it is personal.
