Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Gass.
Hi Amber, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
After I graduated from Mississippi State University, I worked for a year to save up the money to move out west to pursue modeling and acting. When I felt I was ready I quit my job, packed up my car and headed to San Diego where I thought I would be staying with family. That was going to be my transition to LA while I got a job and got settled in California. However, the family member I was supposed to live/work with, had a change of heart and I was left without a job or a home. I didn’t know anyone and I was running through my savings a lot faster than expected. I got a job at a gym and eventually a night club so that I could make fast money to find a roommate and get back on my feet. My little 2004 Ford Taurus held it down for me, LOL. The first place I found to live was sketchy to say the least. It was a two-bedroom apartment with eight people and four dogs.
For my first four months in California, I was sleeping on a blowup mattress on the floor next to complete strangers. Eventually, I set myself up to move to Los Angeles finally start pursuing my career. It had taken a little bit longer than I expected but I learned and grew so much. I got my first apartment and hit the ground running. My first job in the industry was a music video for Ozuna and since then, I’ve been modeling/acting almost full time. I still bartend (because what person in LA doesn’t need a side hustle lol). But everyday, I’m one step closer to my dream and I can’t wait to motivate others and really get into the details of my journey.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
So I think I spoke about some of the struggles in the last blurb. I don’t want to dwell too much on that but long story short I was not prepared. No job, no apartment, and not enough money saved up.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an actress and Model. I would say the project that I am most excited about right now is the film I just finished shooting in Alaska. It’s a horror/thriller and it was my first time in a full-length movie with a supporting role. I think what sets me apart is my mind. I take pride in my integrity and always looking towards the bright side. And I refuse to let myself get distracted when it comes to my dream.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice would be to just do it. People ask me all the time for advice about how to make a leave or to make the move to do something and you just have to do it. There will never be a right time even when you think it’s the right time, you’re going to struggle but I promise it is going to be worth it if you stick it through. I don’t know if I wish that I knew anything from starting out because I learned so so so much from every struggle and if I had been more prepared or knew something already, I might not have gone through some of the trials and tribulations and learned those lessons
