Today, we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Gibby Peters . Amanda was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Lisa Haukom.
Hi Amanda , we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
People are always surprised when I say I came into Feng Shui as a skeptic, so let’s start there…
Almost 20 years ago, my husband’s job re-located us to a new-to-us town. We spent a weekend looking for houses and literally found our home – the one where everything changed for me – on the way to the airport. One walk-through; a rushed offer; and on a plane back home to find out our offer had been accepted. Within a couple months, we were unpacking boxes in our “new” home.
Despite finding a house that checked all the “must have” boxes on our list, it seemed like everything in our lives was starting to fall apart. I had just graduated with my Master’s degree in Communication, but because we couldn’t find a pre-school for our 3-year-old twins with any openings, I was frustrated I couldn’t work. Add to that that while the price of homes had been significantly less, our cost of living had drastically increased – and our marriage was bearing the marks of this new financial stress. Throw in a husband who was hardly home, being new in town and feeling displaced – I was ripe for a breakdown. On a particularly bad day, I grabbed a book off. my bedside table and opened it – willing there to be an answer to the mounting frustration we were feeling.
I saw two words: Feng Shui.
I read a little more, and learned that if I “change my house, my life would change, too.”
My first thought: this is crazy.
But.
The fire it lit within felt good. So, I hatched a plan. Blogs were just beginning to gain traction on the Internet, so I thought, I would apply some of the suggestions and share my results (expecting it wouldn’t work). I bought a book, read it, read it again, and highlighted what I would do.
I implemented a few “cures” and decided to keep reading more because – one upside – the changes were helping my house feel a little better.
While I was caught up in the spirit of it all, a couple things happened – and truthfully, all of this within the first few months:
(1) My husband’s boss – who had relocated us – had recently accepted a new job. She recruited him over and doubled his salary.
(2) The pre-school we really wanted our girls in was full – and yet, out of the blue, they called with two openings.
Like so many people, I shrugged it off as coincidental, but I couldn’t deny that positive things were happening. So, I decided to be more deliberate with it. Since our daughters were now in preschool, I decided I would look for a part-time job that had a few requirements: I had to be able to work from home and the salary had to match what I wanted.
I found three companies that I would love working for; mind you, none of them had openings.
I sent in cover letters introducing myself to all three.
All three replied, and within a week, I had an interview with each company.
At the end of the week, all three offered me a job.
There were 2 jobs that I really wanted – they were a little more “glam.” But, the third job offered me exactly what I wanted – the opportunity to work from home and pay me what I requested, so I took it.
Within a few months, the economy was nose-diving and those first two companies sent people out the door – no doubt, I would have been one of them. Instead, the one I chose hosted international guests in Dallas, so my new “role” had job security.
That got my attention, and it was the pivot in my journey where the skeptic became the student, and here we are!
Please tell us more about your brand, Simple Shui
Simple Shui is a modern-day, mission-driven, love-based practice of Feng Shui. And my intention is to help people fall in love with their homes. How? It begins with a conversation between your home and you. No matter the house or amount of space… No matter your challenges or circumstances… No matter what you think you “know for sure” about your home… I know this wisdom is not income, design or circumstance dependent. You do not need to live in the house of your dreams for your surroundings to trigger the opportunities to make your dreams a reality. I believe and know that what we experience in life is reflected energetically around us. And when we understand that, our home becomes a collaborative partner willing to help us influence what’s happening around us in the most delightful ways. Even better? When we improve our home, it generates and triggers power within ourselves! So, if I am an expert at anything, it is this: I navigate people closer to their full potential by helping them tell better stories. Words, actions, intentions, and our surroundings are opportunities to generate new energy with some straight talk. So, whether we work 1:1 together, OR you enroll in my course, listen to the ‘House Therapy’ podcast, follow along on my socials or subscribe to my newsletter, I know once you get a whiff of what’s possible – and have a little of this fluency of Feng Shui for yourself – you’ll discover a whole new way of seeing your surroundings. One that will have you optimizing your life in the most favorable ways!
Lisa Haukom and The Goldenbrand have been great to us and I know you’ve got a great relationship with them as well. Maybe you can tell our audience a bit about Lisa Haukom and The Goldenbrand and your experience with them.
I discovered Lisa and The Goldenbrand through a mutual connection, and I am SO grateful for the serendipity of it.
I was well overdue for new imagery on my site and in my business, but the logistics of it all had me in a major loop of procrastination. So, when I learned Lisa’s photography extended to virtual sessions, my hesitation came to a full stop. I reached out and booked with her on the spot.
I had no comprehension how the virtual shoot would work, but it turned out to be super simple. After booking my time with Lisa, all I *really* had to do was show up because she was directing the rest of it for me.
She sent mood boarding and photo inspiration prior to the shoot, which was a great and welcome relief to have her creative instincts and genius giving me direction.
On the day of the shoot, she also instinctively captured so much of the color in our home, too. It is one of my favorite features of our home, and even though the photo shoot was of me, our house is definitely part of our family and deserved its best sides to be captured, too! Lisa did an exquisite job showing our home off, too, as we worked together that day.
When the images came back, I was completely floored how there was no detection this was all done virtually. On top of that, the images, color and variety were thrilling! And it was all accomplished without having to leave my home, pack up outfits, bring along props…
Bottom line: If you want to tell a story with images, if it is time to elevate your brand, if you’re well-overdue for new photos, consider this your loving nudge! Lisa’s curation will exceed your expectations and have you coming back to her for more!
