Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Hanley.
Allison, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Started in set design at Pier 59 Studios in Manhattan. Got a job offer in the Art Department of the show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I started from the bottom and worked my ass off as a PA for Always Sunny then got the job as Art Department PA on the show New Girl season 1. By season 4, Erin O’Malley our producer, wrote a letter to the union to get me into the Art Director’s s Guild. Then before I knew it, I had an agent and was a Production Designer making movies, commercials and TV.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
HELL NO! It’s been hard as hell. A fucking roller coaster. Most people would be dead by now. I’m still here somehow.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m known for mentoring usually younger minority females that want to be in the entertainment industry. I had an agent tell me once that it was holding me back in my career, and it made me want to go harder in the paint. It’s what I’m passionate about and it’s definitely what keeps me grounded in this insane industry. Also known for the All Black Lives Matter Hollywood murals and street art.
What were you like growing up?
I was a standout athlete growing up, swimming basketball and softball. That was pretty much my life. Sports and sports and occasionally art. But mostly sports.
