Meet Alicia Brule of South Bay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Brule

Hi Alicia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always been an active person, participating in and coaching cheerleading starting in my adolescent days and into young adulthood. So studying to become a certified personal trainer fit me well. When I felt like my life was about to shift, I knew I had to shift right along with it. That is when I started at Texas A&M University- Kingsville in their Certified Personal Trainer and Family Nutrition program. I am a mother of two beautiful children and that means even when a time of transition is upon me, it must happen without my children missing a beat. I went on to complete that program gaining my certificate in both areas of study and then further on to earning my certification as a personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). I am now the owner and trainer at Vybe Fitness, successfully training my wonderful clients both in-person and virtually.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road here has definitely not been smooth, anything worth having is not going to be easy to obtain (and keep for that matter). Being a mom and juggling the day to day life of my business, my children’s lives including school and their extracurricular activities definitely presented challenges for me. It was also a time of transition for me in my personal life which caused my focus to be off and my mind to be overwhelmed more times than not. However, I am a woman of faith and knew God’s plan was perfect for me. He was ordering my steps and I was following, a lot of times blindly, but always in the direction of divine success.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
By title, I am certified personal trainer but that entails so much more. I sometimes become a personal therapist for my clients, a sounding board for their ideas and a breath of fresh air to begin or end their day. I am their biggest cheerleader and constant encourager along their fitness journey. I specialize in strength training and women’s health. I am most proud of the beliefs I share regarding fitness. Fitness is not just a 30-day thing, something you can do one time and move on. It is a lifestyle, a way to live to very best life, longer. Fitness is not just about you look on the outside rather how you feel on the inside, the outside appearance is just an added bonus. I also believe that your fitness journey is your own race to run, and comparing yourself to the person in the lane next to you will do no good. Yes, they can be inspiration, but focus on your own journey and the way you feel when those clothes fit you how you want them to and you have more energy throughout the day. The main thing that sets me apart from others is that I care. I’m not saying I that others don’t, but this isn’t just a job for me, this is my lifestyle. I have a fierce passion for the wellbeing of myself and others, I have taken and will continue to take the time to educate myself so that I can serve those who need me best.

What does success mean to you?
Success is such a personal thing and I feel like whether or not someone succeeds can only truly be defined by that individual. My definition of success, for myself, is achieving the goals that I set out to accomplish while not losing sight of who I am at my core. It is putting in the work, dedication and time without giving up. I always tell my clients when they get tired, they can slow down, but they cannot quit. Success for me is being authentic, not dimming my light and not being afraid to shine.
