Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Shields.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My husband, Micah and I were both training independently for about 5 yrs prior getting married. With years of experience and a few dozen clients between us, we joined our clientele.
At the time, in the year 2009, with a limited amount of time to train clients and clients now with less resources due to a recession, we created a solution to both.
With two main objectives; to create more availability on our schedule and also a more affordable product, we began offering a 4-1 semi private training option. And with a desire to do what we do better the rest, we developed a system to provide individualized programs in a small group setting. Unlike group classes, our 4-1 product delivered personalized and progressive programs for a fraction of the cost to train privately.
Regardless of the recession, we grew and expanded. We opened our first location and hired two additional coaches to start with. For several years we continued to refine our methods. It’s always been our goal to provide exceptional service and a product that truly helps our community.
Then came COVID. Our ability to pivot during the recession was a reminder that we could do the same again.
Overnight we lost 70% of our clientele. And so we got to work. In one week we developed new programs to accommodate not only our private clients but also all of our semi privates. We drove around passing out a variety of single dumbbells and bands and restructured all of our routines to go online and on Zoom with minimal equipment. Within one week, we regained almost 80% of what we lost.
Keeping our business going through COVID when most gyms shut down for good was one of the most challenging things I’ve accomplished to date. But the resilience, tenacity, PRAYER and dedication to our clientele, kept everything moving in the right direction.
After we were able to reopen our doors amazing things happened. We rebuilt our staff and are blessed to have some of the most talented trainers in Los Angeles on our team. And we grew. And grew.
Currently we have 6 coaches and are looking to expand our Woodland Hills / Calabasas studio. We continue to educate ourselves and strive to provide the best fitness programs available and look forward to doing so for years to come. And in order to serve those outside of our area, we’ve created an app so we can extend our services to many others later this year!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We specialize in individualized program design with the clients needs and longevity at the forefront
We deliver 1-1, 2-1 and 4-1 training sessions led by the most experienced and educated trainers in Los Angeles.
All of our programs have an emphasis on longevity. Meaning, we consider the long term health and needs of the individual. It’s not our goal to beat up clients with a one size fits all workout. Our programs are meant to keep you active and fit for years to come. To keep you strong and capable.
And we are truly so proud of our team and the reputation they helped us build. Not only that, but our clients are the best there is. Everyone is uniquely special and combined they bring great energy and kindness to our facility. I’ve had prospective members come in on so many occasions, afraid of what type of atmosphere they might find. And I think all can attest to being part of a supportive atmosphere not an intimidating one.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Kindness, empathy and compassion are the key to having a successful fitness business.
To truly care for our clients has been our greatest opportunity and I believe is also our greatest strength.
