Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Moscozo.

Alexander Moscozo

Hi Alexander, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a visual development artist. As a first-generation Guatemalan American raised in the vibrant streets of East LA, animated shows were my refuge, inspiring my love for art and animation amidst challenging circumstances. Despite putting my art college education on hold to support my family, my passion for art remained unwavering. Online courses allowed me to hone my skills while working full-time in aerospace. My diverse portfolio showcases my growth and proficiency in visual development, particularly in Prop and Environment design. I am currently working on personal projects to break into the Animation industry.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Entering the field of animation has posed a significant challenge, particularly given the current state of the industry. I am taking the opportunity to meet friends and sharpen my skills for when things begin to stabilize. Having people around you who encourage and relate to the difficulties of a creative career is a lifeline to keep going despite feeling impostor syndrome.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a prop and environment designer focused on becoming a successful visual development artist. Currently, I’m working on a personal project with the goal of presenting it at the Lightbox Expo in Pasadena in 2023. One aspect often praised in my work is the clean quality of my line work.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I owe a debt of gratitude to my instructors, Philip Dimitriadis and Frederick Gardner, who have guided me in mastering fundamentals and developing a designer’s mindset.

My partner, Jenna, has been an unwavering source of support as I continue to work toward a career in animation.

I would like to acknowledge the profound sacrifices my Mother made, affording her children the opportunities she never had while growing up in Guatemala.

Lastly, heartfelt appreciation goes to my friends and family for their consistent encouragement throughout the highs and lows of this animation Journey.
