Today we’d like to introduce you to Aida Bubukina.
Hi Aida, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My husband Andrey and I came to the US almost five years ago from Moscow (Russia). I was 56, and Andrey was 62. We were retired, and our lives were predictable and stable enough. We had a little family bakery business in Russia called “Bubulochka,” which can be translated as something like “a small bun named Bubu.” In Russian, it is a pun around our second name, Bubukin. The story began when we received an invitation from our daughter, a proud citizen of the United States, to join her in her new home, reunite our family, and try to change our lives.
With hopeful hearts and a sense of adventure, we embarked on a journey to restart our lives in a new land. Leaving behind the familiar comforts of our homeland, we arrived in the United States, ready to embrace the opportunities that awaited us.
When we arrived, we knew exactly what to do. We decided to turn our love for baking into a new business. Thus, Aida’s Baking Co. was born.
There are many Russian-speaking people here, so we tried to make every creation with love and care, infused with the flavors of our homeland.
Soon, we became a magnet for people seeking homemade goodness and a taste of tradition.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I was not. First, COVID struck the world. Many new rules restricted opportunities for developing any food-based business: a new country, new people, new language, new customs, new climate. Everything was new for us. It took time and demanded patience and trust in our new, happy future. Through the ups and downs, we stood united; our shared American dream of building a better life has been guiding us forward.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Aida’s Baking Company LLC?
Aida’s Baking Co. specializes in creating an array of artisanal baked goods that blend traditional recipes with modern flair. What sets Aida’s Baking Co. apart from others is not only the quality and taste of their products but also the love and passion that goes into each and every creation.
At Aida’s Baking Co., we take pride in using only the finest ingredients, sourced locally whenever possible, to ensure that every bite is a delicious experience. From flaky croissants to rich, indulgent cakes, our offerings cater to a variety of tastes and preferences.
Our most proud brand aspect is our commitment to authenticity and craftsmanship. We honor the legacy of our heritage by infusing our baked goods with our homeland’s flavors and traditions while embracing innovation and creativity to bring something unique to the table.
We take orders online and work at two farmers’ markets, Playa Vista and Pacific Palisades, where we prepare some specialties of Slavic, Tatar, and Georgian cuisine, like sirniki (cottage cheese pancakes), khachapuri (traditional Georgian flatbread with cheese), chebureki (Tatar empanadas), vareniki (Ukrainian dumplings) and more.
What we want our readers to know about our brand is that we are more than just a bakery – we try to be a symbol of family, tradition, and community. When you choose Aida’s Baking Co., you’re not just buying a pastry, a cake, or any traditional food we make – you’re supporting a family’s dream, a legacy of love and dedication.
In addition to our delicious offerings, in the near future, we are planning to provide personalized catering services for special events, ensuring that every celebration is made even sweeter with our delectable treats. Whether it’s a wedding, birthday party, or a corporate gathering, Aida’s Baking Co. is dedicated to making every moment memorable.
Above all, we want our customers to know that when they choose Aida’s Baking Co., they’re not just getting baked goods – they’re getting a taste of home, a slice of tradition, and a lot of love baked into every bite.
We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
In the bakery business, as with any entrepreneurial venture, risk-taking is an inherent part of the journey to success. While some may view the baking industry as a safe bet due to its universal appeal, significant risks are still involved, especially for those looking to innovate and carve out a unique niche in a competitive market.
As the founders of Aida’s Baking Co., we certainly recognize the importance of taking calculated risks to propel our business forward. While we may not consider ourselves reckless risk-takers, we understand that growth and innovation often require stepping outside our comfort zone and embracing uncertainty.
The main risk we took was first finding and then diversifying our product offerings to include not only traditional pastries and cakes but also specialty items inspired by our cultural heritage. While it was possible that these unique creations might not resonate with a broader audience, we believed that staying true to our roots would set us apart and attract customers looking for something different.
In terms of our perspective on risk, we approach it with a combination of caution and courage. We understand that growth and innovation require taking risks and embracing the unknown.
Ultimately, our goal is not to avoid risk altogether but to manage it effectively, leveraging our creativity, expertise, and passion to navigate challenges and seize opportunities. By balancing prudence and boldness, we strive to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the bakery business while staying true to our values and vision.
