Meet Adam Covington of Styles By Adam C. in Bellflower

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Covington.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Adam. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started Cosmetology school January 2014 with very little knowledge of the industry. I went to the school with every intention of enrolling into the barbering program. The cosmetology instructor, whose desk was near the administrative office spoke to me. She asked what my intentions were so we spoke for a while.

She advised me to take a chance on enrolling into the cosmetology program. You’ll make a great hairstylist! And as you can see I took that chance. I love what I do and I have a passion for it. Once I took that step I attended any and every event pertaining to hair. In doing that I did my best to connect myself with hairstylist who were like-minded in the industry of cosmetology and progressively growing. I first met Lawrence-Ray Parker of LRC Healthy Haircare Products, an amazing Hairstylist and Cosmetological Entrepreneur.

He taught me about hair care and how to manipulate textures. He taught me how investing in good products can grow your business as well as healthy hair. Through Lawrence, I met Tony Roland of the Tony Roland Salon/Authority Haircare Products in Bellflower, Ca, my mentor, and friend who’s been very instrumental in my growth and development as a hairstylist thus far teaching me color, styling, cuts, and how to navigate the everyday salon life.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely not been smooth for me. I’ve fought to be in the position I’m in and I’m still pressing my way. School was amazing, fun, new learning experience. My struggles began in the salon learning the ways of a hairstylist. How to grow my business, creating an experience. I found my passion in creating the experience for my clients to enjoy. Building a faithful clientele is a struggle. Once I got a handle on how to build clientele my business began growing. Soon after that milestone life took a turn for the worse when my mom was diagnosed with cancer. I had to cut my hours in the salon to take care of her before ultimately leaving my business for a few months to take care for her in hospice as she made her transition passing in August of 2017. That was the toughest, most emotionally and physically exhausting experience I’ve ever dealt with but I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. My mom was my heart and my dearest and closest friend. I had no choice but to return to work immediately after everything was over. Being a hairstylist is what I love it’s my therapy. But through that whole ordeal, I lost the clientele I had built also the momentum of new clients I was getting. To turn that negative into a positive I dedicated my time and everything into pouring back into my business which is my passion. I’m at the point again where my business is starting to flourish and grow. I’m very excited about the future moving forward. I thank God I’ve be able to smile through my pain and my struggle to get here.

Styles By Adam C. – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from others?
I’m a Licensed Cosmetologist. I specialize in healthy hair care. I’m known for giving an experience at the shampoo bowl. I take pride in giving my clients a great shampoo experience. I’m most proud of the smile I put on my clients face at the end of each service. And what sets me apart is my detailed shampoo and scalp massage my clients live for.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment honestly is being able to work alongside my mentor Tony Roland in his Salon.
