Today we’d like to introduce you to Yungbc.
Yungbc, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started playing piano when I was four years old and began doing covers of artists like Frank Ocean and the Black Keys all around the Palm Springs area, and then I started making my music when I was 16 under the name Yungbc. I continued making music and doing shows at 21+ venues at a young age, then went to school at Arizona State, where my market and name grew. I started expanding with merch, consistently releasing music, doing shows at major venues, and opening for major acts like Kap G and Comethazine.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, but some of the best things I have learned through this industry are by mistakes. I still am learning every day, but there are no days off when it comes to music. I am forever grateful for all the fantastic people I have met or heard my music, but I treat every day like a new day and consistently work on a lot. There have been doubts along this road, but I also remember why I do this, to put out my content and perform. Those are by far my favorite things.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I make chill rap and R&B music and have been consistently doing that for 2-3 years. I work with producers and compose some of my music, but what stands out from others is my storytelling, lyrical ability, and stage presence when I perform. I feel like when people go to a live show, they tend to remember more of the songs based on if there is a good performer and I think I can bring that to the table.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Don’t let people get in your way. Do what you feel is right and if your gut tells you to do it, then do it. I sometimes struggle with letting people affect what I release or hate or criticism get to me, but that is only sometimes. Regardless, work every day and you can get to your goals.
