Life & Work with Yuji Huang of New York

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yuji Huang

Hi Yuji, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey into the world of Visual Effects began with a deep interest for storytelling and the magic of bringing imagination to life on screen. I pursued my passion for VFX by honing my skills in compositing, CG, and motion graphics, eventually landing opportunities at renowned studios such as Framestore, Ingenuity Studios, and Pearl Studio. These experiences allowed me to contribute to a wide range of projects, including feature films, TV shows, commercials, short films, and music videos.

Beyond production work, I have expanded my influence in the industry by becoming a content creator on Chinese social media platform Rednote, where I share industry insights, career advice, and technical breakdowns to help the next generation of VFX artists navigate the field.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like many artists in the industry, my journey has had its fair share of challenges. Breaking into the wrold of VFX requires not only technical skills but also persistence and the ability to handle the unpredictable nature of the industry.

One of my early struggles was securing stable opportunities and facing the pressure to continuously improve and meet high production standards has been demanding, but it has also been incredibly rewarding. In addition, balancing full-time work, professional growth, and content creation requires strong time management, which can also be a challenge for me. but it has allowed me to stay connected to the industry in a meaningful way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in compositing, CG, and motion graphics, working on post-production for movies, TV shows, commercials, short films, and music videos. My expertise lies in seamlessly integrating visual elements to create compelling, photorealistic, and stylized effects.

One of the aspects that sets me apart is my ability to combine technical precision with artistic vision. I don’t just see VFX as a tool to fix things; I see it as a means to enhance storytelling and evoke emotion.

I’m especially proud of my ability to give back to the VFX community through education and content creation. Teaching others how to use Nuke and sharing industry insights on Rednote has allowed me to inspire and mentor emerging artists. Seeing my students and followers grow in their careers is as fulfilling as working on high-profile projects.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success is about growth, impact, and creative fulfillment. It’s not just about working on big projects. it’s about continuously evolving as an artist, pushing creative and technical boundaries, and helping others do the same.

Success also means having the ability to work on projects that inspire me, collaborating with talented individuals, and making a meaningful contribution to the industry. Whether it’s creating stunning visuals for a film, mentoring an aspiring artist, or sharing knowledge through social media, I see success as the ability to leave a positive mark on the creative world.
