Life & Work with Vini Merola of Outside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vini Merola

Hi Vini, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my life in the music industry as many backstage professionals, as an artist and songwriter. When I discovered how amazing it is to work in a music studio, I started to study sound engineering to be more part of this world.

After finishing my Sound engineering course, when I was 19y, working as an assistant was part of my life for a short period, as I started my studio in my mom’s house, and then my entrepreneur route at that moment. After changing the address of my studio so many times, more than 400 songs produced under my belt, I decided, with my dearest friend to create a music label called Coffee Music Label in 2022. Guilherme, my partner, is a very skilled label manager and I was finishing my cinema course at the time, so we had an idea of making a company that could absolve a major part in the production of an artist, sound-wise and audiovisual too.

Now, I’m dedicated to making my label grow working with amazing artists, producing their music, video clips, and all creative media around it. It is an honor to write, create, and produce in this business

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The entrepreneur part is the hardest road, but I think is the most rewarding too. Maintaining a music studio, a video studio, and a label is not easy. You need amazing talents working with you to create not just very good music and all media around it, but also to make it with less cost possible, not just for our benefit, but also to investors.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Producing music is something I need to live, like breathing, I know that this is a little corny, but I say this from the bottom of my heart. From the first view of the structure of the song to mixing and mastering, I enjoy it. But I must say that directing the dynamic map of the song, directing vocal recordings and mixing are my specialties. In the video business, it would be directing.

I think the fact that I work in these 2 branches, music producing and video making, put me in a condition where I can see these two processes from a different perspective, as I can mix audio and video languages.

What were you like growing up?
I think the best word would be obstinate, but sometimes it looks like an obsession. Since I was a boy, when I wanted something, I would think about how can I achieve that goal and act on it. Add a little of stubbornness to that mix to be fair. I’m a very ‘tunnel vision’ guy sometimes.
