Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Morales.
Hi Tyler, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up for me came very fast, my mother had passed away from drug overdose when I was 10 years old. My father was an alcoholic and never really gave me the support I needed growing up. So, life had already been pretty traumatizing for me at that time. I was born with a stutter really bad and everyone in my life around me would judge me, laugh at me, call me names growing up. It really affected me mentally, but deep inside I always wanted to find my purpose and voice in this world. After my mom died at 10 years old, was when I started doing drugs trying to find ways to take my mind away from the pain I was facing. As I got to high school, I moved so much I went to 8 different high schools and never had a place to call home you could say. But drugs seemed to follow me everywhere I went in life. My father left me the week after high school and I was forced to be on my own at that point. This is when my friends encouraged me to rap and freestyle. I didn’t believe I could rap because of my stutter. But when an instrumental is on, I have the ability to cure my stutter and finally have the voice I always wanted as a kid growing up.
That’s when my true purpose of life came alive! My passion for music and sharing my story, struggle, positive perspective and courage I have acquired through my battles only enhanced the power in my music. But when my brother died when I was 20 years old life took a turn. Drugs became deep for me, and I ended up getting drugged and raped by three men. That’s when I was diagnosed with HIV, Anal Cancer and Stage 4 neurosyphilis. I was fighting for my life, battling cancer for 5 years on and off. But I say this part of my story is because I now daily spread my story, my message of courage and never giving up in life to my fans. Showing the world that no matter what you face, your still beautiful, still strong and have something to offer this world! My pain had made me fight for my dream, fight for peace, fight for a positive life that only I can achieve if I believe. Now I have released 65 songs including three albums and this year have dropped 14 singles since 2023. getting 2500 monthly listeners and over 100,000 streams this year so far! Producing, engineering and recording it all myself.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overcoming 16 years of addiction to drugs. Losing my mother and my brother having my father abandoned me at 18 years old. Being born with a stutter and never thinking I could even make music. Constantly feeling doubt that i wasn’t good enough. Never having a place to call home or a place based on feeling loved. Battling Major health issues like Cancer and HIV treatment were very rough.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m known for my unique style of hip hop. My perspective, my motivational message of real-life courage separates me from anyone else. The fact that I stutter when I talk but when I rap, its cured! I’m proud that I have met people who have listened to my music, and because of my music, they strive to be like me. To acquire the strength I have acquired and the positive perspective. That no matter what battles someone faces that can overcome and make it positive.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Everything in life when it comes to the dream is a risk. I see risk as an opportunity to rather win or lose, and from that I learn better ways to approach it next time. But I see risk as a positive viewpoint. Because just as with life, we only learn when we make mistakes. I would rather try and fail than not try at all and live with regret.
