Today we’d like to introduce you to Ty Baze.
Hi Ty, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Captain Ty Baze, I am an Officer and leader with The Salvation Army her in Santa Monica. My wife and I (both officers), bring a unique blend of corporate discipline and radical compassion to our ministry. A Southern California native, I grew up in Anaheim Hills and began my professional life in the family business, developing skills that led to a 16-year career in graphic design & commercial airplane branding.
In 2006, my life took a dramatic turn, which led my wife Heather and I through separate paths of recovery from addiction. It was during my time in The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center located in Anaheim California —that I arrived broken and seeking help. Thos was where I was introduced to the foundational spiritual and structural components of recovery. Through counseling, work therapy, and the unconditional love of the officers and staff. After working there for short time I continued working with other men in program as an alumni and then became the program assistant for a few years. That is when I heard a clear calling on my life to serve the least, lost, and sometimes unfortunatly, forgotten.
I traded a generational graphic design career for ministry, entering salvation Army Officer Training in 2015. Over the last decade, I have grown as a Christian leader, faithfully serving in the Southwest Division over the last eight years and excited to be back in Southern California.
Heather and I met just after high school and have three children (ages 31, 29, and 15), We recently arrived in Santa Monica this past July after reciving marching orders to our third appointment. Together, we are passionate about sharing the Gospel, the good news and to share the Hope and the reality of new beginnings with others no matter what walk of life they may come from. We absolutly love this community where God has us in this season.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasnt always been a smooth road navigating the different challenges in each appointment. Each appointment has been unique but the one thing that has been the biggest challenge in each, is when we have received marching orders. The relationships you build over time and the lives that have now become family, it’s hard leaving them all behind because of how much we will miss them. However, it is never “goodbye” just we will “see you later ❤️” That said though, we trust God and the plans He has for us as well as the calling He has on our lives.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Corps Officer / Pastor / Sillvercrest Coordinator (senior housing) in Santa Monica, California.
We serve a hot meal two nights a weak at the corps to our neighbors facing food insecurity on Tuesday & Thursdays each week. We also serve a sack lunches and/or family food boxes to those facing food insecurity on Mondays and Wednesdays.
We also have a HOPE outreach team. What does our Hope outreach team do and what does it truly mean to Love our neighbors? Here in Santa Monica, it means a powerful collaboration between dedicated SMPD Homeless Leison officers and our committed social outreach workers that connect our neighbors to much needed resources.
We’re proud to partner with the Santa Monica Police Department providing hope, resources, and a path forward, for those experiencing homelessness. This joint effort is about compassion, not just enforcement, and it’s a testament to what we can achieve when we work together.
We are also a church and have a service every Sunday, as well as other spiritual type programs and services available.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
From commercial airplane branding in Anaheim Hills to a Salvation Army’s Officer, a journey of recovery and calling on my life to sharing the HOPE of new beginnings to those in Santa Monica alongside my beautiful wife and partner in ministry, Captain Heather Baze.
