Today we’d like to introduce you to TV Amunatigui.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m TV-MA and I’m a goth, transmasculine, electro-acoustic noisepop artist. My style of music was inspired by the numetal and industrial rock music I grew up with, as well as having my mind blown by Sufjan Steven’s “Age of Adz” in my 20s.
I got my degree in music composition in 2012, but my passion has always been in producing and trying to become a rock star. I got really into noise and experimental music in college. It’s why almost all the music I produce has a generative or algorithmic element in the performance or writing process.
After college, I started working in animation production on some pretty well-known shows. However, audio, music, and performing have always come first. I started performing live in 2017 and released my first fully produced single, “Unavailable” in 2019. Since then, I have worked as a musician/composer on a few games, collaborated on some tracks with independent artists, and have released more solo projects.
My most recent EP is called “Escape the Land of Despair” and it was the culmination of years of work. It is my most proud release to date.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I grew up in LA County as a lower-class Chicano and it has made navigating music and entertainment challenging. It wasn’t always easy to speak the same language as my peers because people like me are meant to be shut out of creative careers. It has made succeeding at this career more difficult than it needs to be, but it has also set me apart from others. I like that my story is something that could inspire other people like me.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My spouse DontPanicJLA has been with me every step of the way for the last 15 years.
I would also like to thank all of my friends (there are too many of them).
