Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Su.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has been a series of learning experiences filled with both successes and challenges. The move from Taiwan to the United States in 2019 introduced me to a new environment, bringing cultural differences and the initial struggle of navigating a language barrier. Adapting to a new culture and overcoming linguistic challenges were early obstacles on my path.
Graduating with my master’s degree from Parsons in 2021 was a meaningful achievement, albeit with its share of challenges. The onset of COVID-19 complicated the job market, making the search for opportunities after graduation more intricate. During this difficult time, I managed to secure a position in a social media agency, where I gained insights into communication and collaboration with coworkers.
However, after a few months, I realized that the social media agency wasn’t aligned with my true passion. Undeterred, I began exploring other opportunities, eventually finding my way to CNN+ by the end of 2021—a pivotal moment in my journey.
Despite the unfortunate shutdown of CNN+ in 2022, just six months after joining, I navigated this setback with determination and humility, successfully transferring to CNN Digital. This unexpected turn further tested my adaptability, and I faced the challenges of sudden closure with grace.
The struggles encountered along the way have been crucial in shaping my story. Cultural adjustments, language barriers, pandemic challenges, the unexpected closure of CNN+ in 2022, and the detour through a social media agency have all contributed to the diverse tapestry of my journey. Through perseverance and adaptability, I have not only faced these challenges but have also emerged with a sense of humility, understanding that the path to success is often marked by both triumphs and tribulations.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a dynamic motion designer hailing from Taiwan, currently contributing my skills and creativity at CNN Digital in New York City. Specializing in animation and illustration design, I am known for crafting visually captivating experiences that tell compelling stories. My work extends beyond aesthetics, aiming to assist journalists, directors, producers, and brands in conveying profound messages through the power of visual storytelling.
One of my proudest achievements is the international recognition received by my works. Notably, I have been honored with prestigious awards such as the Emmy Awards, the Society of Public Designers Award, Webby Awards, and the Red Dot Design Award. These accolades underscore my commitment to excellence in the field of animation art.
What sets me apart is my unique visual thinking and exceptional skills that enable me to transform diverse themes into vibrant and emotionally resonant artistic pieces. My journey, marked by cultural adjustments, overcoming language barriers, and navigating unexpected industry shifts, has equipped me with resilience and adaptability, setting me apart from others in the industry.
I take immense pride in my ability to channel personal experiences, such as homesickness and the love for my dog Shunshun, into my illustrations, creating not only visually stunning pieces but also emotionally impactful narratives. Through my work, I aspire to connect with audiences on a deeper level, offering a comforting touch to those who resonate with the universal human experience of longing for someone dear.
In essence, my passion for visual storytelling, coupled with a commitment to excellence and a unique blend of personal and professional experiences, sets me apart in the world of motion design.
