Today we’d like to introduce you to Susanne & Maarie Pohlmann

Hi Susanne & Maarie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began my career as a dancer but soon realized that my true passion lay in expressing myself through painting. I have now been a professional artist for over 40 years. Together with my daughter Maarie Helen, an interior designer, I founded Splash Studios. Our collaboration merges my art with her design, extending my creations beyond the canvas to create a matching space…

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In the beginning, it was challenging to make a stable income from my art, especially while raising a child. I persevered by remaining open to every opportunity, maintaining consistency, and never giving up. I sought creative solutions such as offering painting trips, conducting art classes, and exhibiting my work around the globe.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am renowned as the ocean painter, drawn to the ocean’s energy, flow, change, and infinity. My abstract paintings aim to evoke feelings rather than depict specific landscapes. I use fluid techniques to create a sense of lightness on the canvas. Collaborating with my daughter, who extends this fluidity only to the furniture, we create harmonious spaces. Our goal is for viewers to fully immerse themselves in the experience with all their senses.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I believe taking risks is crucial for growth. Humans tend to settle into comfort quickly, but true greatness emerges when we step outside our comfort zones. I strive to challenge myself in both my art and my life. My daughter is a natural risk-taker, driven by adrenaline and unafraid of challenges. She constantly pushes me to step out of my comfort zone, and I do the same for her. Being an artist is inherently risky, but I think it’s worth it when you’re passionate about your work.
