Life & Work with SonicFluxx of Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to SonicFluxx.

Hi SonicFluxx, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is SonicFluxx and I am a professional recording artist and songwriter. My love of music started very early as a child, but was repressed by a strict religious upbringing. I was not allowed to listen to “secular” music for much of my childhood – finding solace at places like FYE and other music stores once I was of age to drive myself places. I found a love for pop music and the euro dance scene. I bought every cd I could at the time and not just listened, but studied great pop and dance albums on what makes songs lead singles and the commonalities in them. I bought a cheap laptop and began mixing my own beats using Sony Acid Music Studio – all the while my family telling me there was no financial future in making music – it’s “just for fun”.

Beat making led to a minor career in DJing, but I realized that playing other peoples music was not what I wanted to do – I wanted to make my own music. About this time, I was suffering major depression with little to no help or support. It took many years to overcome and it truly didn’t end until I packed up what I could in a rental car, with a laptop full of songs, and drove to Los Angeles with the dream that I could actually make a go of being a pop singer.

Since then, I have charted on the Dutch Dance Top 40, performed at Orange Country Pride, placed 4th in Americas Next Top Hitmaker singing competition and have recorded and released my debut album available worldwide!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not – it has certainly been a journey so far! The one struggle I want to bring to light is just how little resources the music industry seems to have at it’s disposal for an independent artist and that there are many, many people and companies out there that try to take advantage of a struggling artist’s desperation.

The other major struggle I think all artists can relate to is the payout per stream across all streaming platforms was not negotiated and no input from actual artists was taken into consideration. I found myself as an upcoming artist from the physical music age now making music in the digital age and I quickly learned that artists don’t actually make money off of their music anymore.

I have thought about quitting, but I always think about the music I’ve written and recorded and I truly feel it’s good enough for the masses – it’s not just average, but actually really good. The obstacle is getting the music heard in a world already super saturated.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

The album was recorded in Hollywood and includes the tracks “Gravitron” and “Starlight”. Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Performing and seeing others enjoying my music. My songs are ripped from my diary pages and my heart – they have healed me and I want them to heal others now. It is my greatest joy and honor to perform and make the world a better place through music, I believe it is what I was born to do.
