Today we’d like to introduce you to Seohee Choi.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Originally, I pursued a fine arts major in Korea. Growing up with a deep appreciation for animated movies, I got the firsthand opportunity to witness the evolution of animation films from 2D to 3D.
In the past, animations relied on 2D layering for their backgrounds. However, with the current transition to 3D, these backgrounds have transformed into more than just settings for animation; they are now intricately detailed, resembling real environments. Observing this transformative progress ignited an interest in 3D environment creation for me.
My journey led me to the United States to explore the realm of 3D. Adapting to new languages, cultures, and technologies, my passion for 3D has only deepened.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has been both hardship and reward. Transitioning from a background in fine arts to the intricate world of 3D posed its set of difficulties. Initially, there was a learning curve in adapting to new software, tools, and techniques specific to 3D. The shift from traditional art mediums to digital platforms required a substantial adjustment in my approach and skill set.
Language and cultural differences as an international student in the United States also presented challenges. Navigating through a new educational system, forming connections with peers, and understanding the nuances of a different culture demanded time and effort.
Moreover, the fast-paced nature of the technology field meant staying constantly updated with the latest advancements, which sometimes felt overwhelming. Balancing academic responsibilities, adapting to a new lifestyle, and keeping up with the dynamic field of 3D tested my resilience and determination.
Despite these challenges, each obstacle became an opportunity for growth. Overcoming technical hurdles enhanced my proficiency in 3D, while cultural adjustments enriched my creativity and broadened my perspective. Today, I look back from where I started, and I’m suppressed with how far I progress I made as a 3d artist.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I really enjoy creating 3D environments; I mainly specialize in 3D modeling and texturing. I tend to focus on details, prioritizing not only technical proficiency but also conveying narratives and emotions.
What sets me apart from others is my ability to integrate a diverse background, allowing me to fuse a complete artistic perspective with technical understanding in 3D. By combining art and technology, I aim to present a unique vision, creating outstanding pieces.
What’s next?
I want to create a 3d environment that tells a story. When you think about animated movies, every environments contain a lot more information than you might initially realize. The characters’ personalities or their histories and even small details like grass or subtle assets play a crucial role in making the characters come to life for the audience. So, I want to create an environment that not only has technical aspects but also encapsulates stories in every little detail, allowing the audience to connect more vividly with the characters.
