Life & Work with Samantha Morris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Morris.

Hi Samantha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been an artist since I can remember. I grew up in a family of artists, musicians, and art lovers who encouraged and inspired me. The arts have always been a part of my life and I can’t imagine a world without them. Life can get quite busy but I always make time to work on different pieces in drawing, photography, or ceramics. I enjoy the process and am proud of what I create.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is full of ups and downs. I have been through my share of struggles – some really tough times. But, I feel like I have emerged from these struggles stronger and wiser and the person I am now having gone through them is more confident and sure of what she wants in life. I am still on a journey complete with ups and downs, but I am happier now than I have been in a long time and I have a renewed sense of inspiration in my work as an artist.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My background is in fine art and that is where I focus my work. I create work for the sake of creating art and I hope that those who buy my work buy it for the sake of appreciating art. I enjoy many art forms and my work varies between photography, ceramics and drawing, with my most recent focus on color “scribbles” done with watercolor pens. And along with making art, I also enjoy my work in teaching it. I teach ceramics at my studio and have enjoyed teaching art lessons for children in the schools. Sharing what I know about art is equally as satisfying as making my own art.

What were you like growing up?
When I was a child, I was “shy”, but had no problem expressing myself with art. I took ballet, played piano, and created random works of art whenever the moment struck. In college, I was unsure of what I wanted to study at first, but after taking a drawing class the first year, I knew art would be my focus. Once in the art program, I thrived. This is what I had been doing all my life, so it was only natural I took this path.
