Today we’d like to introduce you to Romi Cohen.
Hi Romi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Well… this question always makes me smile. Thinking about my story — how I got here — truly feels like a dream come true. I was once a little girl who longed to live in a magical world, a place where fantasy and dreams were real. But I grew up in an environment where fear and pain led the way. That contrast shaped me.
The best place to begin my journey was New York, where I lived for nine years. I traveled through the city seeking meaning and deep connection, wanting to experience as much as I could. I explored cultures, observed people’s struggles, traumas, and behaviors — and slowly, I began to discover the beauty that lives beneath it all.
I became drawn to the raw, honest beauty in destruction — the power that hides behind it. That was the first form of art I ever felt. I dove deep into myself, and over time, it became a new language for me. A kind of home I’d been searching for all along.
I worked hard — very hard — for three years, saving money so I could study at Parsons. There, I focused on interior design and art. Parsons gave me the tools and techniques, yes, but more than anything, it gave me permission to create without fear or structure — to express myself in my own words and style. And I connected to it deeply.
My love for metal started in childhood. The smell of memories — my dad’s clothes, his hands, the piles of metal he used to hoard, fix, and repair for himself and others. That smell still gives me comfort. I believe jewelry should do the same — bring emotional comfort. It’s not just about glitz or showcasing luxury. What we wear affects how we walk through the world.
Growing up in a constant war zone, with the mind of a child who dreamed of safety, love, and magic — I always knew I had everything I needed to create something original and deep. Something that would shake people. People who feel deeply, or who dare to be bold, would understand. Funny enough, the quietest people have felt my work the loudest. They tell me it gives them confidence.
My approach is raw, strong, and deeply emotional — and you can feel it in every piece. Each ring has a story. Each necklace or body piece carries a weight that holds you — that welcomes you home. Metal Heart Wear is a brand created to keep your heart safe, grounded, and loved.
When I opened my first shop on Etsy, I started receiving beautiful feedback. Customers told me how bold and unique they felt wearing my pieces, how it gave them a sense of confidence and strength. I wanted to reach more people, so I began sharing my art and process on social media. That led to stylists and creatives reaching out, and I was lucky enough to collaborate with A-list celebrities like Yungblud, top models, and major magazines.
The journey is still unfolding — there’s so much more to learn and explore. But I’ll tell you something… being an artist who creates from raw emotion, who makes art from the heart and not from a need to make money — that is incredibly hard. Especially in L.A., where everything has to be posted, edited, and curated. Real art can’t be forced. True originality comes from original minds.
And I believe my purpose in this life is to protect, preserve, and participate in that truth.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
.It’s never a smooth road — and it shouldn’t be. I struggled to find my voice, and even more so to learn how to scream it out without hurting anyone. I chose to do it all on my own — to build something from the ground up. I taught myself how to work with metal: which tools to use, how to bend and shape it, who to share my art with, and who to protect it from. I learned how to guard my vision, and how to reveal it without losing its soul. There were many ups and downs — so many lessons, failures, and breakthroughs. But more than anything, there was growth. It was all a challenge, and that challenge made me strong — and still strengthens me for everything that’s yet to come.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
multidisciplinary artist and jewelry designer specializing in handcrafted metal pieces that command attention with their raw, edgy forms. My work is known for its bold, sometimes dangerous shapes—sharp angles, rugged textures, and fierce lines that challenge traditional beauty. Each piece is designed to evoke strength and resilience, carrying a powerful story beneath its striking exterior.
I don’t just create jewelry; I create wearable armor that protects and empowers, inviting the wearer to embrace their own boldness and vulnerability simultaneously. What sets my art apart is this tension between danger and warmth—the pieces look fierce, but they also hold a quiet, emotional embrace.
I’m most proud of how my designs connect with people who dare to be different, who find confidence in what others might see as unconventional or intense. Teaching myself the craft and forging my own path has given my work an authenticity and originality that can’t be manufactured.
Ultimately, my art speaks from the heart — raw, unapologetic, and fiercely alive.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
“Success is when your art touches others exactly as you intended — reaching their hearts just as it reached yours.”
