Life & Work with Richard Arguelles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Arguelles.

Hi Richard, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
What’s good! My name is Richard Arguelles a.k.a Richyraw, born and raised in the Bay Area currently living in Los Angeles. I moved out to Los Angeles in 2020, after serving a successful six years of active duty with the United States Navy, in hopes of starting a successful food blog. Food has always been a hobby of mine in a sense of trying different recipes, cooking, and traveling all over the world trying different cuisines. With hard work and persistence, I’ve built a successful food platform on TikTok, allowing me to convey my own way of how I want to present food. I’ve had the pleasure to work with many brands, companies, and the San Francisco 49ers because of my unique and realness on my food content. With that success in hand, it pushed me to hustle even harder outside of my food content creation by starting my own Filipino soul food place called “NONA” inspired by my Grandma. I’m hella thankful to my fans, family, and haters because they were all contributors to making me stay on my marathon and not acknowledge the thought of failing. I just want to continue to build and grow, ultimately reaching a global scale and leaving my mark in this lifetime.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Damn, so in pursuit of building my platform and everything else that ties to it, I was putting myself at risk of being fired from my other job because of its policy of not using TikTok for personal use. I was always paranoid that they would find it and cut me loose you know? Not only that but out of my friends, I was the only one who had such a big vision on how I wanted to build it and that came with ridicule, doubt, and unsupportive actions in my early days (actually sometimes now too) trying to make it. It’s crazy how sometimes your closest homies can be the biggest doubters/haters in your life. But its cool though, we true to it, not new to it you know? The last challenge I was facing was my health. I remember when I was first starting off I was drinking a lot of boba and eating a lot of junk/fast foods close to 10x a week. I was getting real light headed, lazy, and stomach problems because of this trash diet. To a point where I had had to take a break from it all and get myself back on track with my health. Wasn’t trying to be no Nick avocado or other unhealthy food blogger.

How do you define success?
My definition of success is best understood by the words of Earl Nightingale when he states, “Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal or ideal”. To me when you find that idea/goal it’s an amount of your past experience in life to which it gave you that rationale to why pursuing that idea/goal is worth it. Kind of puts you in a “all or nothing” state as well, or maybe that’s just me. Plus if you’re a big dreamer like myself, it’s going to cause to grow from all the stress, failures, toxic people, and setbacks to amount yourself to a better overall person. And that growth in itself is success. To keep it real with y’all, I want to look back at my life and be undeniably “a man of merit” from all my successes I’ve accumulated. To put The Bay on, put my people on, to put my culture on, and make my mama proud. That’s what I’m chasing. Also between me and you, Food is just phase 1 in my plan. Like I said, im a big dreamer and I feel that I can do much much more dope things, so wait on it.
