Today we’d like to introduce you to Rafael and Antonio Delgado.
Hi Rafael and Antonio, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We are 2nd generation picture framers and printers based in Los Angeles, CA. Our father emigrated from Mexico in the early 1960’s. He and a couple of his brothers started a picture frame manufacturing company, Delgado Bros., in 1966.
Growing up we worked in the family business on weekends and during summers. It was there that we learned our craft. More importantly, however, it’s where we witnessed the monumental effort it took our father and uncle to grow the family business.
We try to emulate that as much as possible on a daily basis in our own business, Excel Image Group.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have faced many obstacles and challenges over the years. Some of these are pretty normal and almost expected as markets shift and consumers’ tastes and needs change.
However, we have also gone through difficult times due to a total-loss fire and, of course, the pandemic. The most important thing in each case is to just not give up and keep ploughing forward.
We have learned a lot through these difficult times and that experience has been invaluable.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We feel very lucky to print and frame for creative individuals across different markets. These markets include fine art, professional photography, interior design/décor, hospitality, and even merchandising.
Our work is customer-driven as many of our products are custom and designed to meet their business’ or project-specific needs. The collaboration between us and our customers is one of the best parts of what we do. Whether it’s selecting the right frame, mat, and print material for their project or just discussing the overall theme, it’s always a lot of fun creating.
We have our own lumber mill, finishing center, and print lab along with a highly specialized team rooted in South L.A. which allows us to meet our customers’ diverse goals. Our vendor network is also rooted here in Los Angeles, which is important when sourcing quality materials in a timely manner.
Ultimately, we feel the pride and quality we put into our work is what sets us apart.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
It takes the dedication of our entire team to achieve what we do. First and foremost our customers and our team members at both Excel Image Group and Delgado Bros. deserve the most credit. The collaboration between all of us is what is most important on any given day.
And of course, Antonio Delgado Sr. and Rafael Delgado Sr. deserve credit for their vision and the inspiration they instilled in us. We also give credit to our late business partner Tony Nunez on the Excel side.
