Today we’d like to introduce you to Qui Talks. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Qui Talks first started her correspondent career in high school as the morning announcer. She was the girl you heard over the PA system running down the listed activities scheduled for the day. Later, during her senior year in college she was asked to conduct interviews at an NFL pop-up shop because her internship boss was fond of her personality. After the event, Qui Talks was approached by many PR reps asking to attend future events to conduct more interviews. Once Qui Talks realized that she was being requested for her interviewing skills, she decided to form a brand named Qui TV. With that brand, Qui Talks covered many celebrity-studded events all over NYC. In 2016, Qui revamped her brand and changed her name to Qui Talks because many people kept saying, “When Qui talks, everyone listens!” In 2017, Qui took her brand to Los Angeles and hit the ground running after meeting Lynn Allen Jeter within the first few days of her move. From there, Qui Talks has been a bi-coastal media personality conducting interviews as the red carpet take-over personality and on her on iHeartRadio featured podcast.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth ride. Growing the Qui Talks brand took a lot of sleepless nights with video editing, blog posting and constant cold emailing. What made things even more challenging was that although many people love Qui Talks’ personality and wanted the Qui Talks experience, getting paid seemed to not come with the request. Qui Talks was traveling bicoastally on her own expense covering events until things hit rock bottom in 2018 when she ended up homeless in Los Angeles. Many people saw Qui Talks at events interviewing celebrities, creating shows, and expanding her platform. However, the bills were racking up because funds were not coming in. She was forced to leave her apartment in LA and live in her car for a month until she made the decision to move back home to New York. During this time, Qui Talks thought about quitting her media personality career because she did not see a way of making income, especially since she was a hot request for events. During Covid, Qui Talks revisited her podcast and started to create episodes with friends and family and knew that this was something she could not give up because this was her calling. She revamped her business plan and created packages for her red carpet takeover experience and MC’ing.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Qui Talks is a media personality specializing in red-carpet coverage, event hosting/MC’ing, and TV/Podcast hosting. Qui Talks is most proud of the 10 years of experience she has accumulated in both the entertainment and fashion industry as the got to media personality. What sets her apart from everyone is her contagious and vibrant personality that draws everyone into conversation and makes them so comfortable that they forget they are on camera but rather hanging out and talking on the couch.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I have two favorite childhood memories. One is watching my mom decorate souvenirs for special occasions such as weddings and sweet sixteens. Her creativity always flows naturally when putting these pieces together that will sit on someone’s mantel for years to come. That is where my creative passion became ignited. Another of my favorite was watching my mom ballroom dance to Haitian music. She just glides so effortlessly and with grace across the dance floor.
