Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Tourigny.
Hi Peter, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started working for my father in Massachusetts for his mortgage company straight out of college in 1990. He taught me the mortgage business and I focused on “Forward” mortgages. I moved to California in the summer of 1998 and stayed in the business. He always encouraged me to learn more about the reverse mortgage product. I closed my first reverse mortgage in 2008 and now have closed over 780 reverse mortgages since then. I quickly learned that it is an amazing product for the right situation. My days are mostly taken up trying to find people that this product will positively impact the quality of their lives.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The reverse mortgage is insured and regulated by FHA and over the years FHA has made changes that have made it tougher to pass income and credit guidelines. Interest rates and home values also affect eligibility and available proceeds over the years.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a reverse mortgage loan officer for Mutual of Omaha Mortgage. I help people better understand the reverse mortgage so they can determine if it is a good fit for them.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Best weather in the country. Oceans and mountains, beach to snow skiing within two hours of each other. Too much traffic.
