Life & Work with Oswaldo Diazgiron of México

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oswaldo Diazgiron.

Hi Oswaldo, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Since I was a kid, I’ve always enjoyed listening to music. My dad loved The Beatles, and I remember paying close attention to the lyrics, the instruments playing in the background, the melodies, and so on. When I watched live performance videos, I always dreamed of one day playing guitar and singing on stage.

When I was around 6 to 8 years old, I found an old, worn-out guitar with only one string among some forgotten things at my grandma’s house. I took it home, and that same day I spent hours practicing the melody of a song from a TV show I used to watch every afternoon. That was the moment I realized I wanted to learn how to play guitar. I asked my parents to sign me up for lessons. At first, I took piano classes for about three months, but I didn’t enjoy them much. Later, they enrolled me in guitar lessons, and I started to learn and improve. Then came the electric guitar, and I started uploading a few covers on YouTube.

I played in school bands and orchestras, and I had the chance to perform at some school events. I always got excited about playing in front of people—even though I experienced a lot of anxiety and stage fright, I enjoyed the feeling.

Despite all of this, I had never tried to write or compose my own songs. I only played covers, always finding new songs to learn. I never felt the artistic urge to express any emotions or thoughts through music.

When I started high school, I drifted away from music because I got into a romantic relationship. I rarely played guitar, I stopped taking lessons, stopped uploading covers… It felt like it had all just been a phase or a hobby I was slowly leaving behind.

That’s what I thought—until that relationship ended after six years. It was the first time I truly felt heartbroken, and also the first time I felt the need to express what I was feeling and living. I picked up my guitar again and started playing songs I deeply connected with. Inspired by them, I began writing my own lyrics and improvising vocal melodies on top of the chords. I had found a way to express myself and to heal the pain I was feeling, it was wonderful!

After that, I started looking for places to play live-performing my own songs along with some covers. I completely fell in love with live shows. I found the perfect space to face my stage fright and introversion, and little by little, I began living out that childhood dream of playing guitar and singing on a stage.

I began recording my songs and uploading them to digital platforms. I currently have five songs out. I’m really just at the beginning of my musical journey, but I’m excited about everything I have yet to share with the world. I’m currently working on an EP that will be released very soon, and I hope this project continues to grow and find its own path.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not really, fortunately I’ve always had the support of my family. Maybe what’s been a bit challenging lately is finding a balance between my full-time job, my personal life, and the music project. Sometimes I self-sabotage by thinking that I’m running out of time to achieve my goals, but I try to go at my own pace.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an independent artist, songwriter, and writer. I wouldn’t call myself an expert in any of those, but I enjoy expressing what I feel and live through my songs. I think I have a knack for finding the right words and structure to create a connection or spark empathy with whoever’s listening. I’ve always felt that sad songs and lyrics tend to hit people on a deeper level, and honestly, those are the ones I enjoy listening to and writing the most.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Yes, I’d like to thank everyone who takes the time to read this and listen to my music. Thank you for being part of this journey that’s just getting started!
