Life & Work with Oliver Mausner of Mar Vista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oliver Mausner.

Hi Oliver, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey began at Icon Collective College of Music, where I honed in my skills in music production. This paved the way for my brand where I blended my two passions of music and professional poker.

I started releasing with EDM labels such as Wakaan, NCS, Dim Mak, Lowly Palace and Rude Service, to name a few. The main label which helped my growth as an artist was Excision’s label Subsidia, where I released several singles, as well as my debut EP ‘Ace Of Spades’. The songs gained momentum and ended up having millions of plays across streaming platforms and earned support from industry heavyweights like Excision, Illenium, Alison Wonderland, Liquid Stranger and Steve Aoki.

I made my festival debut at Excision’s Lost Lands Music Festival in 2021, with additional live performances throughout the US, including The Midway, NOVA, DNA Lounge, Catch One, Temple, The Ogden Theatre, Skyway Theatre, Sky SLC, Mission Ballroom, and Toxic Summer.

To date, my biggest performances have been Lost Lands three separate years, and playing at the Gorge at Bass Canyon in Washington.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not, this industry comes with so many ups and downs and mental struggles. Always trying to stay relevant and ahead of the curve with so much saturation in the industry can be draining. I have always just tried to keep a postiive mindset and make sure to take the steps every day to keep moving in a positive way It is always worth it for the few wins amongst the many losses you face along the way.

Thinking about quitting is a common thing amongst producers, and it seems every time I almost do it, something amazing happens which keeps my passion for music going and why I keep grinding every day.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My strength is music is my songwriting, I feel in any song, whether its melodic or heavy, that a story can be told. I love using orchestral instruments and try to always have something special someone can take from it. Whether its a melody, a certain type of sound, a vocal, I want something very memorable in each track.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I am also a professional poker player. I have always balanced the two the past 10 years, thats also been a struggle but I think it definitley makes me unique doing these two very high stress jobs at once.

Thats why my brand is centered around the Casino Royale vibe. Visuals, songs, etc all are centered around chips, cards, and gambling.
