Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikita Chernykh
Nikita, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello! My name is Nick and I am a professional car photographer!
For my entire life I have been a car enthusiast. I love all kinds of cars, and I really enjoy driving them too! I never thought I’d be a photographer, up until when I first bought a camera to record myself for auditions. At that time I also just bought a brand new BMW 430 and it was my first own vehicle. I fell in love with this car and it was truly just a matter of time when I decided to take some pictures of it using my new camera and from that moment forward my life was never the same.
I found my meditation, my passion, my source of dopamine. Every single day I spend taking pictures and editing, editing and more editing. That’s all I want to do and all Im investing my whole self into.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been very easy since when you start as a photographer you need portfolio and to get a portfolio you need clients. Since I’m mostly focused on an automotive photography, it was a little easier for me because all I had to do is to find a few friends who let me took pictures of their cars. Also, at the same time I was lucky enough to work in a rental company so that’s where I found more cars to practice every day.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work with car dealerships like Mercedes Benz DTLA/ Porsche DTLA ( inventory photography), rental companies and tuning shops like Platinum group (very well known in California), car enthusiasts and basically anyone who needs photos of their beloved vehicle. I’m most proud of every single photo I upload on my IG page @outer_space_pictures and my website outerspacepicturesla.com.
What sets me apart from others, I’d say my vision , and creative ideas. Every single photographer I has its own editing style and an idea of what a great shot looks like
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
For those who want to be an automotive photographer, I’d suggest to go out to their local car meetings and events and practice practice practice as much as they can. Upload their photos online and look for potential clients, that would be a good start. Borrow cars from your friends to shoot and don’t worry about income for now. First couple of years could be without a single job offer and that’s just fine!
