Today we’d like to introduce you to Naiomi Sounds.
What can you tell us about your story?
Music has always been an art that I have turned to throughout my entire life. It has a significant impact on my mental health and ensures that I continue to keep creativity alive in my life. Through listening to music and creating my own, I feel able to express myself better, and to grow through my emotions.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way.
I honestly see every challenge as an opportunity to learn. If you are aware, vulnerable, and attentive in the chaos, you may learn a lesson that you can bring down into a calmer reality. I have faced many challenges along the way, but I have also been learning and integrating lessons that I am able to grasp through my hardships. I have learned that no matter how hard I work for what I think people want, it won’t feel truly satisfying until I work just as hard at what I want for myself. I have also learned that measuring my success by monetary gains or popularity is another goal that will almost never leave me fulfilled. Measuring my success by how it makes me feel, will naturally evolve me into higher versions of myself due to my own intrinsic motivation. If who I am chasing and competing with in life is myself, then I feel I am doing something right. My ego wants me to compare myself to others, but my soul only chases the evolution of itself. All that I know is that as long as I can keep learning and growing, the more deep and profound of a creator and human being I may become.
Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Looking back I can’t say it has been easy, but I do know that it was all worth it. I would rather look at all of my efforts behind me and feel proud of myself than regret not taking a more difficult path and feeling like I didn’t work hard enough for what I wanted. When I look back at all of the decisions, choices and actions I’ve made, it all connects like a puzzle in my mind as to why I am exactly where I am today. In those moments, it never felt easy, but in always choosing to continue to fight, I have years later been able to create a much more smooth life for myself. I see how it was all always connected.
What else should we know about what you do?
Not only do I create music to heal myself and others, but I also work as a full time career nanny and spend my days working with babies. I truly believe that spending time around kids keeps my mind open to creativity in ways that help my music. Children show me the innocence, joy, and beauty of life and I am then able to access that place of wide open creativity when I make my own art. I believe we help each other grow.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I believe that happiness can look different for every person and that we each decide what it is that makes us happy. Personally,
I find myself happiest when I am staying busy, creating, spending time with people that I care about, and when I am focused on the present. When I overthink about the past or feel anxious about the future, it robs me of the gift of the present moment. I am happy when I am present and when I have made peace with the moment.
