Life & Work with Morris Eaddy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morris Eaddy. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Influenced by street art/graffiti aesthetics, Morris Eaddy (MeArt) uses online social media as his inspiration. Accentuating hands and point-of-view perspectives in everyday life defines his style. From online to sketchbook, his illustrations result in screen prints, stickers, stencils, wheat pastes and t-shirts. MeArt started creating more of his recent art after attending a class at Art Center at Night in Pasadena. This class sparked his screen printing desire and lead him to start drawing in a sketchbook almost daily, then turning some of his drawings into screen prints. His love of drawing fuels his passion. Up to this date, MeArt has created public artworks, participated in live painting events, and has been a featured artist in many festivals and art shows.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a smooth road for me, as long as I am having fun with creating and getting into that meditative state when I’m working on art. If I sell some art that’s always good, but not the determining factor for me creating work. I am an artist through and through, and it’s my lifestyle and not a hobby. Art supplies get expensive, and printing out merch for events gets expensive, so I just do what I am able.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an illustrator, screen printer and painter. I’m mostly known for my screen-printed t-shirts that celebrate the queer (Bear/Daddy) lifestyle. I’m most proud of my large-scale canvas screen prints. I think my illustrative style and bold line work sets me apart from other artists.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
People that deserve credit:

Steve Silvas & Mike Moreno – They formed a drawing group with me, my partner and some other friends that helped spark my creativity to draw. I haven’t stopped drawing since then.

Danyol – He’s helped me get into queer art festivals and has been an awesome cheerleader of my work.

Victor Herrera – He’s been a great cheerleader and mentor to me.

Chris Stone – For letting me share an art studio space with him and for mentioning me to Voyage LA!

The Sherman Oaks Chamber – For sponsoring me to paint utility boxes in Sherman Oaks.

My Dad, my partner Ron & my family – For always supporting me and my art.
