Life & Work with Melissa Pacheco of Boyle Heights, Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Pacheco

Hi Melissa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a mom of three, I have had many birthdays to plan, design and execute for my own children, in which I have always enjoyed. After having my daughter in 2020, planning her birthday’s ignited a fire in me that I didn’t know I had. The weeks leading up to her second birthday in October 2022, I decided to have faith in myself, to follow a passion that slowly developed and honestly that was the best decision I could have made. Since jumping all in and launching my business, the Planning Momma, I have had the privilege on creating for many other celebrations. What’s been the best part of it all is not having to miss time with my family. The biggest bonus is that my business is built around my family; they are my true backbone, biggest motivators and cheerleaders. Our backdrops are built by my Dad, husband and myself– a true bonus for me! My oldest son, Sebastian, is almost always out with me delivering, executing an install and then back for teardown/pickup. My two other littles will help paint here and there, and enjoy the time it takes me inflating balloons-while they of course get to play with a few!

As of today, I am very proud of the growth I have had. I have a vision for my business and hope to continue to grow. My clients are the absolute best. I could not be where I am today without each and every person that has booked with me. They have spoken about my business in rooms that I am not standing in- and for that simple reason I am growing!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business and continuing to push forward has been anything but easy. I have had many struggles beginning with building the confidence to start and to booking with clients. One of the biggest struggles I have had is potential clients attempting to bargain with me on pricing. It has been difficult to explain that my services are considered a “luxury” rather than a necessity. My pricing not only includes the materials that are purchased but also time, individuality and creativity to execute a focal point.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an event decorator specializing in backdrop and balloon styling. Though I am known most for my backdrop and balloon styling, I offer kid table and chair rentals, shelf walls, treat walls and custom builds. Our kids tables, which I refer to as Little Seats, have been designed and built by my dad- he’s the best!

I believe that my inability to stay in my comfort zone set’s me apart to others. I am always seeking ways to grow, to deliver and to assure my clients that booking with me was the best decision they made. I continue to dive deep into my attention to detail to assure my clients that The Planning Momma has it going on for them.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The most effective way to support me is to share about my business whether it be on social media or a family function. There is a quote that I always think of, “surround yourself with women who would mention your name in a room full of opportunities”.

Working with me comes very easy. If you’re planning an event, I would like to be able to create for you. If you’re an event coordinator/planner I too would like an opportunity to be a preferred vendor of yours.

Pricing:

  • Minium $450 for Backdrop and Balloon Styling
  • Little Seat rentals minimun $150
