Life & Work with Meg Nunes of South Boston, MA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg Nunes

Hi Meg, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In Spring of 2014 I had just graduated college & was incredibly overwhelmed with what to do next. I couldn’t wait to wrap up the school year, I felt very complete in my college experience but having a bachelors degree in psychology left me conflicted with my next career choice. The plan all along had been to go to graduate school & continue to become a licensed therapist with the goal of owning my own practice someday. However, post grad left me feeling anxious and fearful of my future. What if I get into more debt and end up unhappy? That question ruled my brain and body wreaking havoc on my nervous system. So I turned to yoga more. I was attending classes 3-5x / week at my local studio and the owner at the time took notice . She told me about their upcoming teacher training and thought I would be a great fit. I was scooping icecream for minimum wage, my student loans were about to roll out of deferment and I was stressed but ultimately figured — what do I have to lose? By the fall I was enrolled in my 200hr teacher training with Open Doors Yoga which was an immersive program to be completed in 3.5 months. Just as it was expected to begin, my grandfather passed from ALS. I was ridden with grief and even more conflict of where to turn and what to do, but I was ultimately met with so much kindness, patience, and understanding in my time of grief. My lead teacher for YTT only encouraged me to continue to show up despite my lack of preparation, so that’s exactly what I did. I kept showing up, and now I’ve been showing up in the yoga space and wellness community for ten years. I’ve had some other career paths alongside my yoga teaching journey, but today I am proud to say I am an independent self employed yoga teacher — teaching classes in Massachusetts and sharing the healing work of life coaching and Usui reiki with clients now near and far across the U.S and Europe. Its beautiful to see my passions become my purpose and my work!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In my ten years of teaching I’ve endured many hurdles both personally and professionally. Grief, fear, self limiting beliefs — as I too am human. It’s difficult to find your voice and the right community that aligns with you and your values. Even the wellness space can feel really un-well sometimes. Yet time & time again I’ve only carried on, navigating and resisting the urge to conform and have remained fully committed to being my true self, not only for me but for my clients. I like to think my authenticity has played a huge part in my success. As much of a leader as I am, it’s important to remember that we are all just people, doing our very best on this earth with the time we have here and I think that helps to inspire others to be themselves too!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For the past ten years I’ve been teaching power yoga classes, majority of which are heated / hot. My class style is one that will challenge you but will also encourage you to befriend your own self as the more we know about ourselves, the more we can connect to our own breath and being the more we can understand and prioritize what we need when we need it. Alongside yoga I lead Usui energy trainings and offer healing sessions in person and virtually. I’ve actually been able to meet so many new friends and clients from being on tiktok! Having gone viral in 2022, I signed with a talent agency and have been able to coincide this work of yoga and energy with brand collaborations I feel most aligned and passionate about. Im proud that I never gave up to get to where I am, there was so much that could have and almost did stop me. I think my gentle and infectious energy speaks volumes to people, which keeps people engaged with my content and attending my classes / workshops /trainings. You can consider me your hype woman for hire — I root for everyone, everywhere across so many different spaces just encouraging others to be their most true and authentic selves in their healing work and in their lives!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
That you can’t please everyone. It’s more than okay (and even incredibly important!) to be different, and that there is space for everyone everywhere. You can let fear rule you or you can feel the fear and do it anyway and when you lean in, you’ll most often be surprised.
