Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Koronellou
Hi Maria, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Of course! Well…I am born and raised in Greece, I’ve always had a deep passion for the arts. From a young age, I immersed myself in acting workshops, school plays, and music, which sparked my love for storytelling.
Moving to New York was a significant step for me. I’ve always wanted to take this step, and I’ve worked diligently, with patience and discipline, to get here. I explored various paths before finding my way, including working in hospitality and studying economics for a few years. I’ve experimented with different fields and constantly sought to learn and make the most of every opportunity.
I came to New York almost two years ago and studied at the Lee Strasberg Institute, which was a transformative experience that deepened my craft.
I approach each role with genuine dedication. and respect, always aiming to bring authenticity to my performances. Outside of my professional life, I’m someone who values creativity and self-expression, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. I feel like the road to a big dream is rarely straight; it’s full of twists, where hard work turns obstacles into rewards.
While I’ve had many rewarding experiences, the journey has been marked by its share of challenges. Balancing multiple roles and managing financial constraints while pursuing my passion has been demanding. The industry’s competitive nature means facing frequent rejections and navigating self-doubt, which can be disheartening.
These moments of self-judgment are particularly tough, as they test my resilience and confidence.
However, each challenge has been a learning experience, teaching me to persevere and adapt.
Despite the obstacles, these struggles have only strengthened my commitment to my craft, fueling my growth and deepening my appreciation for the art of storytelling.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m primarily an actor and model, specialising in bringing a wide range of characters to life through my work .
I’m proud of all my projects, my latest one is a one-act play that we’ll be performing at the Circle Festival in early September. Each of these projects allows me to explore different aspects of my craft and challenge myself in new ways. I love all my projects because they offer unique opportunities to delve into diverse characters and stories, continually fuelling my passion for the arts and give me the opportunity to work with so many talented people.
Hmm.. What sets me apart..
I think is my dedication to truthfully and respectfully embodying each character. My background in acting, singing, and dance enriches my performances and gives me a multifaceted approach to storytelling. This diverse skill set helps me bring a unique perspective to every role.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The COVID-19 crisis was a tough time that showed me how unpredictable life can be and made me cherish every moment more. It taught me several important lessons. It highlighted the value of adaptability and resilience, as the industry faced numerous challenges and uncertainties.
I learned to embrace flexibility in my work and to find new ways to stay creative and engaged, even when traditional avenues were unavailable. The crisis also prompted significant self-reflection, allowing me to reassess my goals and priorities. It reinforced the importance of self-care and maintaining a strong support network, as these elements became crucial during such a tumultuous period.
Overall, the experience deepened my appreciation for both art and life.
