Life & Work with Makenna Timm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Makenna Timm.

Makenna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a ten-year-old living in Hawaii, I had a dream of going to film school in New York, I didn’t exactly know what I wanted to be a part of but I knew I wanted to be creative. At age thirteen I started taking acting classes in Hawaii and auditioning for local projects. I booked my first short film and knew that being on set was the thing I wanted to do. At sixteen I got involved in a local television channel to learn more about being behind the scenes and editing. I made PSAs for the local channel and learned everything I could about the different aspects of what goes into production and fell even more in love with making films.

At seventeen I went to film school in New York for editing, directing, and writing. Doing that pushed my drive even further and I knew the next stop was Los Angeles. I moved to Los Angeles and got involved more with acting, taking classes at The Acting Center, Los Angeles which I credit so much for the success I have had as well as getting involved with like-minded people to continue learning and growing as an artist. Which has gotten me to where I am today. I have acted on some great projects and made my own. I have been an assistant editor, and a videographer and worked with some amazing people. It’s been a long road that is still growing and I am so thankful I get to do the things I have always had a passion for.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road learning to deal with rejection and the hard and fast pace of the industry would sometimes make me question why I was even still in it. I found that surrounding myself with like-minded people and having a good support team makes even the hardest times more manageable.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I would call myself an actor, editor, videographer, and of course, part-time bartender. The freelance life doesn’t always pay the bills and that’s ok. The gratification I get from working on a production is itself worth it, for me. I was extremely lucky to have the opportunity to be cast in a movie last year “Twisted Vines”, directed by the lovely Jihane Mrad which has been performing very well in the film festival circuits and I had the chance to learn and work with established actors such as Vivica A. Fox and Michael Pare.

I also had a wonderful opportunity to work as an assistant editor and actor for a film directed by Cassian Elwes. I got very lucky in finding good people to work with. I have a short film in post-production that was written, directed, and shot by Connor Colebrook who I am also lucky to call a friend and that will be hitting the film festival circuit.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I am always looking for new opportunities to meet and work with new people. That’s what makes this industry so amazing. Even if you need a PA for a day you can reach out to me on Instagram or through my email and I’d love to connect.
