I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As a 13-year-old Chinese child who had just arrived in the United States, I faced significant challenges, including bullying at school due to my limited English skills and unfamiliarity with the new environment. This difficult experience taught me a valuable lesson in standing up for myself. By learning how to assertively say “no,” I discovered the importance of self-respect and self-love. These experiences have significantly shaped me into a resilient and confident individual. They have instilled in me a determination to inspire others to recognize their own worth and pursue their passions with courage and confidence.
Many of my subsequent works have focused on themes of discrimination and the injustices of sexism. My dark experiences during high school, marked by these very issues, fueled my desire to use my art to make a difference. Projects like the Vagina Project and DRIP are direct reflections of my commitment to addressing and challenging these societal problems. Through these works, I aim to raise awareness, provoke thought, and inspire change, drawing from my personal journey to impact others positively and advocate for equality.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an actor with a background in Lecoq physical acting. After starting my career in this field, I spent a year in Beijing working on films and undergoing extensive training. This experience helped to deepen my skills and broaden my perspective. Subsequently, I was accepted into the MFA Acting program at CalArts, where I am now in my final year. This program has provided me with advanced training and opportunities to further develop my craft, preparing me for a dynamic and fulfilling career in acting.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
As an acting student who has studied in the U.S. for a decade and lived in New Jersey and Boston.
Like: I appreciate the vibrant entertainment, theatre industry and the numerous opportunities for networking and auditions in LA. The city’s creative energy and diverse acting community can be incredibly inspiring and offer many avenues for professional growth.

Lease Like: On the flip side, I find the competitive nature of the industry and the high cost of living challenging. The pressure to stand out in such a vast pool of talent can be daunting, and navigating the city’s hustle and bustle might be overwhelming at times. (Especially when several auditions are coming up around the same dates)
